Alright... well i've been in need of a new radio for a couple weeks now, my 6 disk took a crap, and won't eject cd's anymore. So i was looking at double din units... i hate the space at the top and bottom of single din units. I found this one...

I really like it... but im curious on how much work it would take to get it to work in our trucks. Crutchfield had this in the help section...

Q: My car has an oversized factory radio. Why can't I replace it with an oversized aftermarket receiver?

A: "Oversized" receivers come in two different sizes:

the 3" tall (or DIN-and-a-half) slot found in many GM/Chrysler vehicles
the 4" tall (or Double-DIN) opening in some Japanese vehicles.
If the dimensions of your car's dash opening differ by even a fraction of an inch from these standard oversized openings, you won't be able to install one of these oversized aftermarket radios without modifying your dash.
Many Fords, for instance, appear to have Double-DIN openings — in reality, the opening is a little too small. In some vehicles, the bracket system that holds the factory radio in place won't work with an oversized aftermarket receiver. In either case, we recommend installing a standard DIN-sized radio with a mounting kit.

so i e-mailed crutchfield, and they said it would work, but would take some modifying (our openings are... if i measured right... 4x7), no real way of attaching otherwise... but how much, i don't want this to end up being a week project to install a radio, and id rather spend the money on aftermarket, instead of buying factory so i don't have the void. Thanks guys...

i have installed one of the same kenwood DD Radios in my buddy exp sport....went in with no problems....

 

Cool.. thanks guys, i think im gunna order it. I was gunna go with the 701... still might... its just more expensive than id like. Im so tired of not being able to listen to CD's

it will I have a double din. works perfect. just have to file down the sides alittle

cool I went ahead and got one.. cartoys wanted $400 but i got it online for $190 and the place is only over in Houston :) So i'll be having my Panasonic CQ 7401U and XM adapter/antenna for sale soon!

 

wow... i didn't even see that Will posted back in september lol I didn't end up putting it in my truck, found out my warranty company covered factory radio equipment, so the cost of my deductible i got a brand new pioneer 6 disk. But yes, that radio will work in our trucks, scosche even makes an installation kit for it. Which i still have... if you want it BJ i'll send it to you, u just pay shipping, shouldn't be more than a couple bucks.

I like that HU alot, they don't sell it here in stores.

I'm curious as well. I wanna put my pioneer 8600mp in my rig as I have the aux plug for my ipod. I'm thinking about a dual din myself.

 

I put the panasonic cq-vd6503u DD unit in my dash yesterday. It wasn't too bad, I had to dremel the cage for the unit a bit on the top and bottom, and the little lip on the dash had to be trimmed. It fits good on the top and bottom but needs some trim pieces on the sides. I am going to make them in the morning and will post picts once I am done.

 

I ended up with the DPX-501 like originally posted, I like it, a lot. Post some pics of your 701!

lol i cant find any batteries 'good enough' for my POS digicam, none of my remote control batteries work in it, nothing! It just beeps at me, i hate it, it eats batteries rather quickly..i'll have to get some in the daytime with my phone
