subs are acting up

I dont know what is going on but i am getting really mad.. I have my subs and amps installed just like in my old ranger (esept no capacitor). When i go to turn my radio up passed 26 the subs will kick but i get no sound from the rest of my speakers.. I was watching the amp remote and one time when it did it the amps went from 0.8 up to like 2.2 voltage. The power they are drawing never changes either ..usally stays at 14.4. It doesnt effect my lights in the truck or the factory voltage meter. If anyone has any idea what is going please tell me..

They still work with lower volumes but up passed 26 the just kick low bass.. and no sound from the other speakers i have in my doors..

2 alpine type r 12" 2ohm dual voice coil
2 mono alpine mrd-300 amps
4 gauge wiring.

yeah after thinking about it for awhile and playing around I have come to the same conculison. Its a Panasonic MXE CQ-C9800U CD/MP3/WMA Receiver
. I tried to clean it but it is still acting up. I really like this unit and I cant find another one like it. It seemed it was only on the market for a short time. Oh well I quess i will have to look for a new head unit or try to find someone how can fix it.

Thanks for the reply

Are your door speakers amped? Mine are and my system used to do the same thing. Everything would work at low volumes, and the higher i'd go, my door speakers would die, until i would turn it back down. I have no idea and i'm really experienced with audio stuff.

Don't Alpine amps have a 4 volt cut RCA input cut off? Not sure if that means it won't utilize anything higher, or goes into some sort of protection mode. Although like Joe above me, I'm not sure if your midrange is amped or not.

It should have nothing to do with the sub amps, about the 4volt cutoff. Still not sure of the whole situation though.

Well the door seakers run off the head unit. It pushes 60 watts of rms and 70 peak. I thing its something to do with the unit it self. I went and made sure that the saftey mode on the amps was shut off and changed all of the settings like the eq, low pass filter and such but still does the same thing. I think that the head units amp is shoot.

It has a 2 year warranty through crutchfield and i got it in june of 2004 so i think i am going to pull it and send it back to crutchfield. They should fix it. But they dont make that head unit anymore so I may get a brand new one? I will tell ya all when i find out.

One more question, since the internal amp on the HU is larger than normal, does it need a larger gauge power wire than the one in the stock harness? I imagine so, didn't know if you did it or not, that may cause a problem.
If that's not it, I think the HU is just dead.

Its not like the alpines that need a larger power cable. It runs off the standerd power cable thats in the harness and has a small amp thing that is attached to the unit. It was hooked up the same way in my old 89 ranger with has a weaker wiring system then my 03( and it worked fine-except for mp3's). Other then that i think the unit is dead. I emailed crtuchfield and i sould get a response by the end of the day.

Well the word is in. I can either send it back to crutchfield and get my money back or i can sent it in and get it fixed. The person i talked to said it was the same thing that everyone else how had this head unit said it was doing. Now i see why it wosent on the market to long.

So what do ya think i sould do?? Sent it back and get something new or just get it fixed?

I will get a new one. any sugestions? i still like panasonic but what about alpine? i dont know really with way to go. All my door speakers are matched to my panasonic (60 watts of rms) so i need a decent head unit and a four channel amp now.

i just dont see how that HU puts 60x4rms of "clean power" you will prolly not notice much difference with a different HU

i installed a alpine 9855 into my friends truck i was impressed with it, i really love my clarion 955, i believe crutchfield carries the 855

i diont know how much money you will want to spend but let me know and i will try to find a good one, do you have to buy from crutchfield? because cardomain.com with the price match is so much cheaper, i got 300$ off my 955, and customer support is great and they are authorized

It has a digital amp built in. A digital amp uses high-speed current switching which results in cooler operation, allowing higher power without increasing the size of the heatsink. With is what i think s**t the bed.

I am going to send the unit back to crutchfield ( where i bought it) and am getting a credit put to my account. That is $424. I am looking at the alpine cda-9855. With is scratch and dent at $382.49. The rest i am going to put for my new digital camera.

What problems sean? Other than the need to totally eliminate 2 volt pre-outs from all models and the non-industry leading CD Signal to noise ratio, signal processing quality should still be top notch.

And that 60Watts per channel is obviously peak power, nor RMS.

something with their motorized face plates crapping out for some reason.. i put a 9855 in my friends mustang.. he hasnt had any problems.. but ive read about them a few times here and there.. i think peter here on the board said the same thing (stealthedge...). honestly i think they've got a nice line up this year.. the failing motors was the only thing i heard bad about them.. so i figured id mention the slight problems they sometimes have

Digital amps or class D are for subs pretty much only. The "digitalness" of them makes them have bad signal-to-noise and other specs that you look for in an amp for mid's/high's. Maybe the Panasonic one is something new, don't know.
I also have heard that the newer model Alpines have problems with the faceplates. I love mine but it is the older model than this years, which are awesome in my opinion and many others. I'm not sure what brand i'd go with. The Alpine's do have a warranty I believe but I still wouldn't want mine to crap out on me.

the problem with the faceplate motor was supposed to be resolved, it was only the first batch of this years models, i believe alpine took care of it real quick and shipped out new batches to companies, if you buy it from crutch, i wouldnt worry too much

I have deside what i am going to get for a new head unit. I have the other one boxed and ready to ship tomorrow. I am going to get a Panasonic MXE CQ-C9901U. I like my panasonic to much to go to another brand. The only diff between this one and my old one is the rms (31 compaired to 60) and the new one has a 512 color display. I will get pics up when i get it in.

The built in amps are class T. Thought they were more like a class D. My bad Rideac1 I sould explained it better.
