Duratecs Whats Your MPGs?

I bought my truck with 67K on the meter and shortly after that installed a custom tune. The least amount of MPGs i have gotten is 23.2ish the best was 25.2 MPGs that was over the last year. I just hit 100K 2weeks ago. I decided to do a 100K tune up. I did rearend fluid, tranny filter and fluid, fuel filter, front 02 sensor, plugs, wires, cleaned air filter, cleaned MAF and changed antifreeze and the last two fill ups i got 26.2 and 26.5 with a kinda lite foot.

Anybody else getting that kinda mileage?

Wayne

With my stock 4.10's and 31's on heavy steel wheels i was getting 13-14 city 16-17 hwy.
I just swapped in a 8.8 3.73's l/s today so im pretty sure that number will go down even further .
But when my tax return come's im going to regear to 4.56's so it should go back up .

My all stock 2.5L with 125k got 25-30MPG with 373s and manual tranny. Now with 4.10s I am pushing 30 all day. When I put on 31s it will probably drop back to 25 though.

I'm running a same sized tire and seeing the same MPG's, i average about 20 mpg on a tank of gas with a 60/40 mix of highway/city driving. Before winter and getting the bigger tires I was averaging 25mpg.

I get around 27 in town and 35 on the hwy all day long. This is with 4.10 and stock sized tires with a rebuilt 2.3 pushing it all.

If I drive easy (as in 55mph) and find gas without ethanol, I can get 30 mpg on the highway. I have even gotten 32 on a road trip when gas was $4 a gallon and I was constantly focused on driving for mileage. With 10% ethanol gasoline, and driving 55-65 mph on my commute (80%curvy mountain roads and 20% city) I average around 27 mpg.

i have the 2000 2.5 / auto 2WD with 4.10 stock 215/75/15 tires. i drive 90 miles round trip on paved roads with aprox 14 stops round trip. most of the trip is @ 55 - 65 MPH. i have never seen above 19 MPG. i have only had this truck since christmass 2010 it is a reg. cab stepside with a tunocover so it is the smallest model avalible. the only problem with the truck is a faulty o2 sencer. the check eng light will come on about twice a week. i will be replacing it next pay check. several years back i had a 90 SC short bed 2wd ranger with a 5.0 / C4 it was getting 18 MPG and it was not even injected. If my 4banger ever goes out i will do another 5.0 at least i will have the power i want for the MPGs i get.

Mileage

Helomec, mine is the same truck and my mileage looks just like yours. Mine however is a lot of highway boat towing, same results as city driving. Average between 24-25 highway boat towing.

Been keeping track on Fuelly.com with another guy (same truck with an auto trans.) Stick is worth around 3 MPG.

it's cuz of the shift points. auto i'd be driving 50 km/h at 2500+ rpms in 3rd, 52/53 km/h is where it shifts. manual i can drive 50 in 5th at 2300 rpms.

Also, the manuals have a 3.73 rearend ratio, wheras the automatics have a 4.10. At least that's how the newer ones are.

It's Road Trip for the iPhone.

I also use Car Minder. (Green your good to go, Turns Yellow when something is coming due, Turns Red when a service is overdue.)

Lately 25 MPG on 10% ethanol crap, but plan to use "real" gas at next fill and will get much better. Usually takes about 3 tanks of real gas to reach best fuel economy - should max out at 28-29 MPG with mostly highway driving.

Nope.

The only Duratec Rangers out of the factory with 3.73 gears are the Regular cab manuals. With the Duratec engine, automatic Regular cabs, and Super cabs with either manual or automatic, get 4.10's.

And as an added bit of trivia, ALL Rangers get the 8.8" ring & pinion axle for 2011.
