wheel bearing price question

wheel bearing price question

got a 98 ranger. was told front drive wheel bearing was going bad. its humming like a bitch. is it really $160 for a bearing or what am i am getting? bearing is like $20 so what am i getting the whole new assembly? idk if got ABS or not. theres no wires really going to y breaks. i got a broken vac line thats bout it. i got ABS light but my wheels will lock and on snow i never felt the pulse

thats not bad, 4x4 bearings arent cheap.

They are about 50 off ebay, otherwise the dealer wants 400. So anything between is fair game.

And yes you have to buy the whole deal, its an assembly that you cannot service. Easy way to tell if you have 4wabs is to see if you have two lines coming off the wheel hub. One is vacuum and one is the abs wire.

You will also need a 25 dollar plastic snap ring, they don't like to come out in one piece and ford says they need to be new.

yup 460! do yourself a favor and do replace it yourself!
told to get timken. and if you have 4wabs like said before itll cost you a little more. best price i found for 4wabs hub assembly was 183 free shipping.

advanced and napa were around 160. i do believe i dont have ABS on the front. cause there isnt just no plain wire comping off the vac line. its just a vac line. can u have abs on the back and not the front. or have an ABS light and have no ABS

yea i think the options were RWABS and 4WABS. for that assembly i got 159 free shipping. same place

My fist 4x4 had the same problem. I just prepacked them with grease and fixed the problem.

OP

The rear speed sensor tends to die, for the 20 bucks and computer reset its worth a shot. Otherwise ABS codes are dealer only and a min diagnostic fee these days is 100 bucks.

skf wheel bearings are the only bearings i will ever use

skf wheel bearings always cost more , skf are the top bearing manufacturer on the planet
