02 Ranger gear shift to cab problem
Alright on my 3.0L 5 speed ranger i was checking out how the gear shift was installed in there and noticed that it is completely open from the tranny into the cab. It appears to me that there is suppose to be a metal panel on the bottom that should bolt or screw on around where the shifter comes up through the floor. Theres only some soft insulation stuff there that's not covered. I just want to know how its suppose to be in there and what im missing. Some advice or solutions would be appreciated. I've always been chevy so this being my first ford im not as familiar but i figured hey could at least give ford a try before i made my mind up. Oh and no dip stick on the transmission is a crappy deal too i think.

Well i was just taking a guess, as i say im getting familiar with the way ford puts em together. How the hell does the top of the transmission seal it for you. I know its not the way it should be on mine because its not sealed and its absurd that i have mice getting in my truck. The steering coming up through the front of the cab is not sealed around it either so i get a cold draft at my feet when i drive all the time.

Yes...as said above, most manuals do not have a dip stick. It's just like a axle.....there's a fill hole that the fluid goes up to. And on the trans, there's a drain hole as well.
There should be a sheet metal inspection cover that's bolted to the cab floor. Then ontop of that, there should be this....
The cupholders/shift boot bolts to what's pictured above.
Are you trying to tell us there's NOTHING there...... like this is what's directly under the carpet? A big *** hole?? WOW...

the metal plate he is talking about is under the flooring in you cab not the bracket above the flooring that the cupholders mount to. i have this plate in mine, yet it isnt sealed properly therefore i also have a draft from there as well as from the firewall

the draft from the firewall is from a hole that is factory, in my truck theirs nothing i can do about that hole, the only time i can notice the draft though is when i wear shorts and drive, but i plan on fixing the floor seal, i pulled the flooring out of my truck and it was completely soaked on both floorpans, so i may just get it rhino lined, instead of replacing it with carpet. should look badass. whoops thead jacking, sorry dude.
