Looking for a way to get l/s for added traction when at the boat ramp. I've got an edge with an open 8.8 with 4.10's. Was wondering if there was any easy/ bolt on way to get l/s. Can I just go to a junkyard and pull a matching 8.8 with same spline and l/s from a ranger and just bolt it on?

 

in a nutshell, yeah, but thats really oversimplifying it. you kinda have to know what your doing or have some help that does. can't just stick it in and be good to go.

well if you're talking about swapping the axle, then you could do that. it'll be hard to find an 8.8 with 4.10s and limited slip in a ranger, but if you could it would be super easy to get in. if you get one out of an explorer, then you would have a little more work to do there.

 

Yes 2wd. My father will probably be doing most of the work while I hold his beer for him. I still need to do more research, but is putting a locker in pretty much "bolt on" as-well?

 

pretty similar, it's the kind of thing you don't want done wrong though. for the boat ramp, i'd look at l/s over locker. but for the record I've never had a tire slip on the boat ramp. If I did though, I'd put it in 4wd. So I understand the concern.

 

you'll have to remove the ring gear from your current open carrier and bolt it onto the LS at the appropriate torque spec. make sure you don't break the weak shims when you pull the stock one out and put the new one in and put them back in the correct order and correct side.

its pretty easy to do tho.
