4wd problem 94 ranger 4.0

So i have a 94 ranger 4.0 5speed with 5 inch suspension life, 3 inch body with 35x14.5-15 boggers. It has warn manual locking hubs and pushbutton 4x4. I was out playing in the mud when the 4x4 quit working, i got the truck back on the road and went to back up and there was a loud screeching/clunking noise and the LF tire was locked up, it popped and broke free. the truck is fine in 2wd but seems to bind in 4wd. both front axles turn when in 4wd but the wheels do not. I had this problem once before, it was the c-clip and splined washer on the front axle shaft. this time everything looked fine when i took it apart, could it just be the lockout hubs? any ideas?

also ive been told the dana 35 front axles in these rangers are supposed to be durable, but i seem to keep having problems, just doesnt seem to hold up to the 35x14.5 tires. has anyone done a front and rear axle swap from a F150 or full size bronco?
