Abs

Has anyone had their ABS light come on? How much is the scan tool to check the codes or do you think it would be better to just take it somewhere to have the codes checked? ITs for my dad's 99 Ranger 4X4.

I got the codes checked for his ABS light. I can't find the exact codes right now but it brought up something for the rear speed sensor and the sensor that is only on 4WD models (the one that is neat the fuel filter). I would hope that one of them went bad and is causing both of the codes. Any ideas?

I just bought the rear ABS speed sensor from NAPA for 10 bucks. When I had the codes scanned it brought that up as one of them. The mechanic told me that the ABS system runs a idagnostic every time you start the truck. Im wondering if I will have to take it back to have the codes cleared or if it will recognize it by itself and turn the light out. Only time will tell and I will keep you all informed.

You can reset the PCM to clear the CEL and code by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute or two. Or you can just drive it. After a number of drive cycles, if the problem has been corrected, the CEL will go off and the code will be erased.

I installed that new rear abs wheel speed sensor in my dad's truck. The abs light shut off all by itself. For 10 bucks it was definitely worth it. Thanks for the help guys.
