5 speed manual Tranny oil change

Hi, How often do you say I should change the oil on a 5 speed
manual transmission on a B4000 4X4 2009 ?

The book says 100 000 Km. I feel it's a little long...

What do you think ?

Thank's

I see you have a K&N Cold air intake, Did you have any problem with the
Mass air flow sensor and your Oxygen sensor ?

What is a Flowmaster Super 44 ?

op.... i have 90000 mi on my truck and no change yet. you got to keep in mind that the tranny oil doesn't get dirty like you engine oil. the oil in the tranny see no outside debris like your enginf oil(same with your diff and transfer case). the oil in the can break down but the 80 or 90 weight that is used has to see really really high temps consistantly to break down. if your not towing or really hard on your tranny then itll be fine till at least that long. im going to wait till i need a clutch to do my tranny oil....

also the fact that manual trans don't create near as much heat as autos do...FWIW ford uses ATF in the manual trans and t-case

Changed mine with 809 miles on it, put in Mobil 1 ATF. And yes I know but I'm weird like that.

If it takes auto transmission fluid, I would honestly change it every 20k to 30k miles. I have an '02 Ranger Edge 4x4 w/4.0 v6. I have the Mazda manual transmission that takes the Mercon ATF. At 140k miles, I lost my transmission. The design is ridiculous, there is a plastic tray inside the transmission that is "designed" to oil the input bearing. If anyone with this transmission has a leak, make sure you keep your fluid level topped off. I learned the hard way, front main bearing overheated and let the input shaft wiggle, chewing the main gear on input and countershaft up and melted seals. Ford wanted $1400 for 3 parts... I got a used trans with 77k miles on it for $550 out the door...

Good luck with it!

Same thing happened to my sisters 93 Ranger 2.3L 5-speed at 104,000, never changed the fluid. She owned if from new until she sold it with 192,000.

if youve ever ground a gear while shifting your driving around with shavings of metal in your oil and it should be changed.

When i changed mine a few weeks ago the drain plug seemed like it was magnatized so that all the shavings and debris were sticking to it.

Well Thank you for all your answers. I decided I will finally change my 5 speed
Transmission oil. I will put CASTROL MERCON V.

Any comments regarding CASTROL MERCON ?

I run Royal Purple Manual Transmission fluid. It's NOT oil, it's a thin viscosity fluid compared to oil. If you're using oil, you're gonna destroy that transmission. It's common to run gear oil in a transfer case, but not a transmission.

If you use Royal Purple, be prepared to spend $12/bottle + ... It's worth it IMO.

They sell little hand pumps that fit the bottles the ATF comes in. I got mine at Auto Zone for a couple of bucks.

If you people want to add/run oil in your transmissions, go for it. Just don't get back on here and make a thread talking about what it did to it.

People need to stop referring to it as oil. It's a fluid but it's not oil. Someone's gonna read that wrong and then it's gonna open a whole separate can of worms on here.

well i would hope people would have enough common sense to look into their owners manual before they put any kind of fluid of any kind into their vehicle.

I will try another way, get the truck levelled, drain the old fluid,
get 6 feet of 1/2 inch plastic hose with a funnel.
One end of the hose into the filler plug hole, secure the hose with temporary tie wraps. The hose has to go on top of catalyser
driver side ( I got the V-6 4.0 liters ) and goes out over front
driver tire. Then I hook up a funnel attach to the open Hood.
I will pour the new transmission fluid MERCON V which is if I
remember correctly 2.65 liters and wait for the gravity to do the job.
I will do it as soon as i t gets warmer outside north of montreal
quebec canada. I should give you feedback in a couple of weeks...
