Removing Ford D44 wedges.

Most know I have a D44 from a 76-77 Ford F150, well I got to tearing the axle down and figuring out how to remove the wedges.

the wedges are welded on, i ground down the welds but they still do not want to come off.

Will I just have to grind the whole thing off? Or will it come off? Any techniques?

do you wanna keep these?

if not cut em in half and get a big hammer.

or if you have a torch just start taken them off piece by piece

So you are implying they will come off in one piece? If so ill keep grinding.

I would use the torch and I tried but I want to keep the heat down.

just make sure not to sit in 1 spot with the grinder for too long.....you will heat the tubes and could potentially warp the tube...

that axle should have the crazy thick tubes, so its not a big deal with the heat. But it is good to be on the safe side.

Grind down the weld as well as possible then keep hitting each wedge with a BFH until they come off.
