Trans goes into Neutral

been havin this problem for a couple wks, it comes and goes. . .so far its done it all day today when ive been drivin it, its in D(yea i have an auto) ill go to accelerate or im accelerating and the rpms will just go up and bounce off the limiter, ill let off then give it gas and itll do it say i duno twice more mayb 3-4times at most then go back into gear. At first i thought itd be the neutral safety switch, but then the tps sensor poped into my mind, but i would think that would throw a cel. if it helps i have the A4LD trans i believe, any insight would be helpful. The trans itself was replaced at 64k im at 80558 give or take so it has, roughly 16k on it.

The a4ld died in 94 in the ranger, you have a 5r55e.

First thing coming to mind is the cable is not adjusted correctly. Did you get a warranty with your replacement trans?

Fluid levels obviously the first thing to check though. Neither you or anyone else has mentioned that.

Sounds like it could also be the forward clutch, control solenoid or a pressure problem.

Besides the linkage, which does much less than it used to, also check that the connector the big switch on the transmission where the selector cable hooks up is on right and so forth. Most of the transmissions operation is controlled by electric solenoids that switch the hydraulic fluid so they can have an impact on that.

Failing the obvious, get it checked.

From experience I will add this.

When the 5r55e becomes low on fluid it will not want to shift into OD. Especially at wide open throttle. After checking the level I found nothing on the dipstick and a bolt missing from the pan. Even missing quart it shifted fine in first.

N3elz is right check the fluid first, i just assumed you did already.

I try and check mine after I fill up. Then again I have had leaking issues in the past, plus this trans needs a watchful eye.
