AL4D Transmission help

I just bought a 1994 2 wheel drive Ranger with 70,000 miles on it. Truck was a one owner and is in nice shape. It has a 3.0 engine with the AL4D transmision. However, The transmission pump weny out and after repairing the tranmission I found the back of the Crank shaft that supports the pilot Bearing for the T Coverter was cracked.
In all of my research I have found this is a problem that causes the pumps to go out and this was a problem that Ford had. Keep in mind That this transmission/ engine did not have a pilot gearing spacer between the fiy wheel and T Converter. It used the insert bearing that would be placed into the crankshaft end. Here is my question if anyone can help.
1. The crankshaft is fine as the bearing retainer that sticks out from the crank shaft is cracked and i think this is what cahsed the pump failure. As a result will I have to replace the entire crank shaft?
2. Or could I remove the existing broken pilot bearing support from the crank shaft end and install a pilot bearing support spacer ffor the T Converter?
3. Has anyone ever had a similar problem ?
