I have a 97 ranger xlt 4x4 with the 4.0l 5 speed. The rear end went out the other day so I dropped the rear end and took it apart, its a 8.8 btw, and it had 3:27 gears. Did they make the 4x4 rangers with that high of gearing? I thought the 4wd 5 speed models came with 3:73s or 4:10s. I got a 8.8 with 4:10s im putting in it, I was just curious if the front had 3:27s too

 

Usually both gear sets are the same.

Double check the tag on the old rear axle and see what it says.

Also, use the VIN Checker on the sight and see what it says.

Also, count the number of teeth on the ring and the pinion ?

I found another 4x4 ranger with 3:27s at the u pull it yard and got the rear end out of it but i just thought it was weird for that high of gearing in a 4x4 an everybody I asked even my auto teacher said it was weird
And I know they usually are the same, but this truck was rebuilt from the ground up pretty much and pieced together by the previous owner which were dumbasses
