back on the prowl...well maybe not
so I got the trans all put back together and back into the ex and its still notchy(is this normal?) and I cant put it into 5th gear at all it just goes back to neutral(why?) it goes into reverse no problem.
I text my auto shop teacher who helped me rebuild my trans and he just said 'get another one' and it wasn't helpful
also I needed to change the positive battery terminal with a brass one, jumped it to start it, and when the lights were turned on tonight it almost stalled out then it saved itself, then when I turned the truck off the dome light didn't come on and I tried to start it again and it wouldn't, acts like no power at all.

i'm not quite up speed did the tranny have a catastrophic failure is that why you rebuilt it of so how many and what new parts did you use and which ones did you reuse to me it almost sounds like a synchro or something like that not allowing it into 5th or could be fork and the next question is timing of gears
#3
second gear cracked and had a chip and destroyed the bearing that goes between the gear and the output shaft, 2nd and the bearing were replaced along with the syncro for 1st and 2nd, the blocking rings for 1-4 and 5th and reverse were left alone, because they weren't affected. then everything was cleaned and put back together.

without seeing how its acting and listening to it its hard to diagnose may have had unoticable damage to synchro or something like that like i said before without seeing the gears old and new hard to say what went wrong we reuse gears all the time when rebuilding trannys for highway tractors and don't have issues so as long as the ones you reused were inspected thoughly i don't think they are the issue but i would still be suspect of synchros as they probably are the weakest link besides clutch in the drive train

and i replaced the 1-2 syncro and my auto shop teacher who worked for ford said it was okay beside reverse, which works. could it just be because i just put new fluid in and jacked the rear up and shift through gears insted of actually driving it?

the other gears I can feel it when the syncro hits the blocking ring then it falls into gear it doesn't seem to make any noise, when i had the ranger with the 4x4 trans it seemed smoother, I'll be sure to get that in the video also
