Spider gear pin removal

Hi,

New here.

1988 Ranger 4wd --- needs a new set of spiders and axle gears.

Ok it has been sitting all winter and now time to have a close look and take apart.

Trying to get the pin out of carrier....got the holding stud lossened .... pulling the side gear pin out and it comes out lovely until we get to the place where the flat side on the pin is no longer and the full diameter of the pin hits the ring gear.

So to repeat the spider gear pin has a flat side about half the length and then goes to full diameter. This will not let the pin come out.

What do I need to do?

first time I have worked on a differential.

Hoping some one can point me in the right direction.

How would they have got this together in the first place. I thought the carrier was a solid piece and there is simply no room to pull the pin.

Thanks to one and all.

It sounds to me like you have to press the ring gear off. What is the ratio?
