Towing ATV's

Just purchased two utility ATV's which weigh about 650lbs each (dry), I was towing them around town on a 16ft trailer and my V6 3.0 did eh ok, but im a little concerned about taking it for a long trip on the highway or up hills... What do you guys think??

Umm it isn't a big engine but you'll do fine towing em. 3.0 just unfortunately isn't that great of an engine.

aint that the truth.

Im sure you know but maybe you dont. disengaging overdrive will help with the lack of umph...but then again...when do you need to drop a gear while towing a load? my 3 can tow 16ft flat skiff and trailer with two dirt bikes no problem at all but stopping is the real issue haha

I dont think mine has overdrive, thought that was only for automatics mine is a manual shift. Well around town its not bad im mainly worried going up hill lol. What about doing some peformance upgrades to boost torque, any ideas?

in a Manual, 5th gear is also referred to as "overdrive" some old style shifters show the "o" over the "D" symbol for 5th gear instead of a 5.

Why do you need a 16ft trailer to two 4wheelers? I am sure and 8ft would be plenty big enough.

Oh yeah the smaller trailer will cut weight and make it better and easier. As far as towing it though it should be no problem with the 3.0. I towed another ranger with my 2.5L lifted on 33's with 4.10's. If you want to know something that sucks try that!

I have a 3.0 5-speed and have a custom built 13 1/2 foot trailer pulling my 100 pound inflatable boat with a 125 pound 15hp honda motor, it does it with ease.
