Composite Fenders? WTF??

I was drilling through my bed rail for my new 102" whip when I noticed there was dust flying everywhere. Not metal flake. What's the deal with that?? Are these puppies gonna shatter or split if I smack em on something?

dude, the flareside, splash, or stepside (whatever you want to call it) is a fiberglass composite bed, its not steel

Yikes, I did not know that.

Well, now I know. Thanks Bob!

Well, being that I've never owned a 'vette nor swapped panels with fiberglass, are they going to shatter or split if I hit em pretty good on something? My neighbor has an early 70's Bronco and he replaced his front fenders with 'glass ones. The one side is completely fubar'd, maybe I should ask him how he did that.

Edit: The bedrail meaning where the top of the fender meets the bed. I have stock bedrail covers on mine.

all ranger stepsides have fiberglass fenders. starting with the '93 splash's. almost all '95 and newer pickup with a stepside bed has fiberglass bedsides. the only one that dont probably would be a cheby up until at least '99 when they changed the body style.
