Is there a factory option for a locking tailgate on Rangers? Is there an OEM kit? How about aftermarket? I have a tonneau cover, but I'd like to secure valuable, tools, or misc junk in the bed without someone walking by and stealing it. Any solutions or options are appreciated!

 

There isn't an oem option but they sell aftermarket ones. Some just use a hose clamp too lol

 

I'm looking for something just a little more secure than a hose clamp.... Lol. I've seen a few that look like they attach to the corners of the bed rails and gate and use something like a lug nut key to open them. Maybe that's my only option? I really don't have the body work skills necessary to glass in my own setup. :/

 

do you have power locks? if so, you can wire one in that will lock everytime you push the button on your fob to lock the trucks doors

Found one! Pop a Lock #pl2310.

 

 

Do you have a link for that? Is it ranger specific?

 

I found it on both eBay and JC Whitney. JCW was actually cheaper. $55 vs $60+ on eBay. I'll see if I can get the JCW link. The mfr part number is PL2310 for plastic latch handles, PL2310C for chrome, and there's a specific kit for metal handles.

Yeah, I didn't get the power option. Just the standard manual kit. It looks stupid-simple to install, but I'm not gonna assume anything.

Just checked the FedEx site while I was procrastinating before work. Looks like it might get to my place a day early. Woo! So, hopefully, I'll have it installed today with pics to follow. But, alas, time to get paid. Blah.

 

Alright. That was harder than I expected, but still not too horrible. The lock works pretty well! It's much more secure than I thought it would be. I'll be posting pics shortly.

looks good! Does the handle still sit the same way as before?
In the picture with the key in the lock cylinder, it looks like the handle sticks out a bit but I can't really tell for sure at that angle.

 

The handle does sit level and even, but it sits about an eighth of an inch further out, due to the thickness of the material that is now smack-dab in the middle of it all.

 

It does kinda look like the handle sits out more. Maybe a side shot of it would help.

No worries. That's what I figured. But, back to the topic at hand, I definitely recommend this product. Anyone with a torx wrench, metric socket set, and flathead screwdriver can install this thing. BUT..... it is expensive. 50+ bucks.

It was not hard but yet not easy,that's for sure.Getting the lock to the handle was the hard part.
