if you don't know how to do it properly, you will have leaks(air and water)......i would say the $200 it would cost you would be cheaper than going to buy one from a junk yard, and taking the time to put it in yourself....

I know USAA replaced my window free of charge, so ask your insurance. I know most insurances will foot the bill for chip repair as it saves them from replacting the whole window.

New windshields glue right on the frame, and all will crack when you try to cut them out. It only cost me $200 to replace one of mine, so it's not worth the effort. I should know, I've been through 5 of them.

You should get it professionally installed. If any water leaks into the dash and comes in contact with any bare electical wires, you will be shelling out more than 200 bucks to fix that possible nightmare. You'll sleep better at night if you get it professionally done.

I did one myself once - it turned out OK but was way more trouble than it was worth. I say shop around and have it professionally installed. Auto glass shops are often very price competitive.
