Didn’t need anything big, just something to tow my smoker and my Gheeneo around. Didn’t want big payments.

To pull my boat and haul my mountain bikes while still getting reasonable mileage as a DD.

1st - great deal on financing after 9/11, also small size, manual trans, color, engine size

2nd - Wife wanted another after rolling first and walking away w/o a scratch. Of course I hunted down a black 04 FX4LII with leather buckets. She got the truck she wanted, and I got the truck I would have bought back in 01 if I knew then what I know now!

cause it was on craigslist for $800...and it was 11yrs newer than my truck i had at the time, and i though it would get "good" gas mileage...lol......and i could sell the truck i had for at least $3000 so i would have plenty of money to spend on the ranger...lol

Because I didn't need a bigger truck, and I really wanted a manual, which aren't put in new f150s anymore. I go with Ford because I get a family discount through them. (yay for the A-plan)

because my first one in high school was my 98, and i loved that little truck, so i bought my 04 as my "nice toy" and then this year bought my 94 as a winter beater for 300 bucks.

First ranger I bought because I was 15 and my Dad wouldn’t let me get a Thunderbird Turbo coupe (this was in 1997 and it was an 88). Because my Dad didn’t understand turbos and figured it would break and I wouldn’t be able to afford to fix it. I had worked for three years to pay for my first car and my Dad insisted it have less than 100K miles and be somewhat new since he “didn’t want crappy cars littering his yard” He found it in the newspaper, it was an ’88 ranger ext. cab XLT 2.9 V6 with a 5 spd with 80K miles. Picked it up for 2000 and had enough left over to buy some 1991 explorer aluminum wheels for style. I grew up with rangers as most of my family was driving them or Bronco II’s in the 80’s so I was ok with it. I bought my Buick Roadmaster 6 months later and then the Ranger just became a beater. Flash forward to 2001, Buick is gone, I am driving a 2000 Ford ZX2 that I hate and the redesigned ranger comes out. My Dad talks me into getting a loan for one, I worked at a ford dealer so I got it for 10K less than the sticker price. I drive the hell out of it and put about 40K miles a year on it. I have owned several other rangers and explorers since.

Needed something I could get better MPGs in than the F350 mason dump I was using as a DD, and wanted something the wife would be comfortable driving when there is snow on the road.
