POWERDOME!

I seriously bought it cause it had a sweet looking hood and front end, and I really like the stock 15" alloy wheels that came on the EDGE trucks. Plus "puke-proof" vinyl instead of carpet lol.

it was the cheapest out of all the newer small trucks. had the most options in it for the cheapest amount. if i could go back, i might have sprung that extra 5k or so for a used 4wd 05+ tacoma, but my truck was also the only one i found that had only 7k miles on it and it was only a year old

i love the truck, but i guarantee as soon as i finish school and start actually making money, this thing will be replaced by a PSD!

At the time, it was all I needed and I could get into a somewhat newer Ranger than a F150.
Gas mileage was bearable as a college student.

needed a truck for work and the guy selling this let me have it well below kbb, nada and even edmunds, less than 1/2 (closer to 1/3) of what other used trucks of the same yr were selling for.
havent regretted it for a second.

I wanted something with 4wd, something to tow my boat, and to fit my outdoor lifestyle, preferably a pickup truck, as a 16 year old I didnt have much $ spend, my dad had previously owned a dakota which was the biggest piece of **** ever, S-10s are gay, and the sexyness of this beast caught my eye on bargain news.

I bought it for $500 since I needed a beater to run around in while I work on my project car. My second ranger is cause I loved my first one so much. I will probably always own a ranger.

thought they were sexy, inexpensive, cheap on insurance, and perfect size for what I needed. Also didnt have to carry people around as much with less seats.

Because I wanted something with better mileage at the time. My '69 got about 8 mpg. When I got the Ranger, it got 22. When I get out of college, the Ranger is gone unless I keep it to just mess with.

i originally was getting a 2002 ford ranger 4x4 stepside, but it had rust on the windshield area...causing mold and moisture...so they gave me my 2005 2wd for the cost of it, 10k

Lot of you guys got 'em because they were the cheapest etc. etc. and you really wish you had gotten something else...and yet here you are spending your free time on a forum dedicated to the little truck you don't even really like all that much? You know deep down you love the ranger:)

Cuz it is an awesome truck. lol. Ok, gf knows i love Rangers and my truck more than her (jk). She even helped me look for one that had everything I wanted on a Ranger [four doors, nothing electric, manual and most importantly red!!!]

I get to see this 1st gen all abandoned on my way to work... and I just wish I had the money to buy it and give it some life... Rangers FTW!

I bought mine to help me with renos around the house. I kept borrowing my supervisor's truck every couple of days and thought "Gee, this is getting silly. I need a truck of my own..."

if you only go by what you read online then no one would buy a ranger. almost everything Ive heard of these trucks prior to buying mine wasnt good. I had a friend who had a mid 90's ranger xlt and he couldnt wait to get rid of it. he also had constant problems with it. but now I put that down to how you take care of your vehicle, as he wasnt very good with maintaining his.

Almost bought an 98 4x4 xlt about 4 years ago. Decided against it. Bought a 2002 Edge 4x4 a couple years ago, returned it a week later because the financing sucked. Sold my car when I joined the military, found this one for 9,500, KBB was 14,500, and it only have 55k on it when I bought it.
I've always wanted a truck, but not a big one, this one has everything I want, and I'm adding more to make it my own. I love my truck, and I think I'm hooked on rangers and won't get anything else ever again, haha.

Sure you can, just get one of the umpteen million of them prior to the 2005 model year that the frame rusted out on...or one of the hundreds of thousands after the 2005 model year with the frame that cracked around the engine mounts and they still haven't done a recall....they're much better trucks than the ranger though. I mean they want more money for them, so it must be a much better truck, right?

Toyota: Our trucks are amazingly well built - Tacoma is the toughest dayum truck on the market...we just need them back for one second to do just a smigeon of work on the frame...no don't drive it in, there are baseball sized holes through your 4 year old truck frame...still utterly reliable though

26 MPG+ and the fact that my last 7 of these all went over 200,000 miles on their original engines, several hit the 300K mark.
The one I have now is still young at 120K, for a 1994 I guess that's low mileage these days.
Looking for a second one, something in the 1998 and up era with a 3.0 long bed 4x2 w/AC.

You must be new to rangers. Rangers had a great reputation till about 2002-3 when they hit that 10 year mark without a major redesign. When the new Colorado came out and the new Tacoma a few years later all of a sudden the Ranger was an old crappy fleet truck in the minds of the average smaller pickup buyer, It has always had a better rep than the S-10. When I was a kid Rangers and Bronco II’s were everywhere. They were most families second car that the Dad drove to work and back and then took hunting with him on the weekends.

In 2003 it was the best compact truck you could buy. None of the others interested me in looks or feel. Plus I am a Ford fan.
