I am looking into Optimas and wondering what model you have in your trucks. Do they fit like factory and are they held in with the factory retainer? And if you have offroad lights and or winches how do they hold up for ya????

I have looked on optimas site and found a couple that may work but need to know for sure. I am mainly going after this battery for a side and top post feature.

i got a 8004-003 just over a week ago, and i love it. nice smooth quick cranking, and lots of run time without the truck running. i had to use the side post for the positive because it was to short with a bodylift, and the battery was a lil bit shorter than the optima.

cant wait to see how it holds up to a winch.

my vote dual batteries. with the extra mounted in the bed in a battery box and a 200amp alt.... lol but didnt you just cut down the money tree in the back yard?

It's like 6549876927987 times better than the one I had. I got one from Advance, it was their top of the line battery & Optima one is by far the winner of the 2.

I had a yellow top in my '96 corolla and I could run my system at full tilt boogie (RF 800a2 @ 60A, PPI 2400 @ 60A, pos profile @ 40A) with the car off and she'd still start like a firecracker.

i have 2 yellow tops in my truck and they are the **** and i dont have all off those light but my system and they are the best way better than some cheap crappy battery!

 

What's your budget and intended use?

Both RT and YT can handle a bunc hof accessories. The difference is that yellow tops are deep cycle batteries and the reason they are popular amongst car show veterans has less to do with the amount of accessories and the fact that they can be drained till dead repeatedly and always come back, red tops cannot, red tops are starting batteries.

I can't see why you would need a yellow top, but if you really wanna drop the $200 go for it it wont hurt anything.

there are a few different models you can use, let me know if you want dual terminals and if you want yellow or red top or if you are feeling frisky...a blue top

 

I want a battery with dual posts (side and top) that will reliably crank the truck, and have enough power for my system/carputer, my PIAA lights, and occasionally a winch (if the cash allows). What do you say to that Andy?

 

Have you not seen my post about my new winch????? That and all the lights that I have yellow top would be the way to go.

 

I just finished reading the 4Wheeler's Bible today and they addressed the Electrical system upgrades with an electrical winch and it included adding a deep cycle battery as a second battery for the winch to hook up to directly.

 

Thats an option as well, just would involve cutting holes in the bed for cables and thats not on my list of things to do. Cutting holes i dont like doing unless I have to.

 

Yeah, me neither... Talk to Griggs about it, he has a dual battery setup and so does Tom Barcia (sp??) Tbarcya, it think...

 

Wow.... this should help me out as well. I'm probably going to be buying a new Battery real soon, so I think I'm going with the Red Top. Thanks for the info guys.

costco special it was $80 its smaller than the standard red tops but still has 650 CCA and has been fine running my daylighters and stereo even with my destroyed alternator. also it instals just like a stock battery and has never moved offroad.

 

I have the dual terminal redtop with 800 CCA and it has always worked great. Doesn't fit so well in the battery tray, but with a little work it goes right in. The dual terminals are great for you add-ons.

I had a red top for like a week. It didn't fit all that great so I sold it to my friend.

 

I took a die-grinder and cut the lip off of the front of the battery tray.(closest to front of vehicle) After doing that, it fit right in using the supplied holddown. It was tight and never moved, until I recently crashed and pushed the entire battery back a few inches.
