for years i've always sprayed it on a sponge and wiped it on the sidewall so it wouldnt get all over my truck...but i was in napa today and they had like this gallon jug of rubber/plastic protectant that said it doesnt harm tires. it's like $3 so i figure what the heck why not?

washed the truck-even cleaned the sidewalls off with some whitewall cleaner-and applied this stuff. it looks great! gives them a tiny bit of shine but without all the oily greasy nastiness :)

no more spray down the side of my white truck!

 

HaVe you ever tried any other type of tire shine? I use the meguirs tire shine in the aerosol can and I don't get any of the crap kn my truck. Stay away from the foaming stuff, that's what gets thrown off

i have always used meguiars :) it doesn't spray on the truck at all. i dunno i just got tired of the super shiny look i guess haha. and $3 for a gallon of this will last me forever

but i really like this stuff. i can put it on the mirrors/doorhandles/bed caps/and the back bumper pad. even the rubber trim around the windows. makes everything look new

it's just napa brand haha. it just called rubber/plastic protectant. it's white it almost looks just like armor all but like i said not as greasy. and a whole fricken gallon!. i still used a sponge on the tires. everything else i just dumped on a microfiber. even used it on some of the black covers under the hood

another trick i randomly tried was this stuff i use on my quads. it's a spray on plastic shine-i believe its called sc-1 or something. made mirrors/caps look new on my truck. NOTE_DONT USE ON TIRES lol. just in case someone is dumb enough to do that.

i work at a tire store and some idiot asked of cooking oil would work as tire shine. WOW lol.

yes cooking oil*shaking head* lol. some peoples kids. it might work for a while...and then your sidewalls would rot out

 

The stuff you use sounds just like Meguiars Hyperdressing. That stuff is amazing and can be used on any trim piece, tires, mirrors, etc. I'll never use anything else. You can also dilute it for less black/more black etc

 

it's not dressing though. it is a milky white. hyperdressing is neat stuff though! that's what i used on my old zx2...i kinda miss that thing. some dumb*** kid beat it all to heck after i sold it :/ what a shame when you knew how much something was loved and cared for!

 

I love any product that can be used on everything though.. makes things so much easier. and no more pile of products lol

 

Stoner More Shine or Meguiars Hot Shine in a aerasol can. Those are the products I live by. However I have heard if you want to get your tires black for like 3 years you can put a heavy coating of mothers back to black on it lol.

 

Ive been hooked on the new Meguires Natural Shine Interior Protectent with scotch guard.

the new stuff with the scotch guard works much better then the previous formula.

I use it for everything now. Tires, Interior, Tonneu cover, Flares, Bumpers.

my tires stay looking clean, dark, and brand new looking. not greasy and wet looking.

It repels dust and dirt, and anything that does stick rinses right away.

 

i never have issues with spray when i drive... but i also apply it and let it sit instead of drivin right off...

 

Yeah I think that's where people have problems. They put that shiny stuff on and drive off. Then it will sling like none other.

 

We use a tire shine from Zep. Fairly inexpensive and has a rubber conditioner in it. "Extends the life of tires" A bit greasy but doesnt sling and it shines like diamonds when your done. Tires look brand new.

 

Update: Since my post from August, I have gotten tired of oil based shines. I have figured out the way to keep the shine from slinging, but it is nearly impossible to keep the tires from getting dust and such on them b/c the shine is so sticky.

I currently use Poorboys Bold and Bright. It is a water based shine that never slings and b/c it being water based no dust sticks to it. It is also a very dark and rich shine more than a mirror-like oily shine finish compared to the Meguiars stuff I used to use. The only drawback to this stuff is that it is only found online from what I can tell. The local autozone, o'reileys, and advance auto places do not carry it.

Overall it is just an issue of personal preference. I prefer the darker rich tone of a water based shine compared to the shiny oily look.

 

I prefer water based tire dressing as well. AutoGeek has Duragloss water based tire dressing on sale for $26 a gallon.

 

I heard that Duragloss is some good stuff too. That's a good price b/c just 16oz of Poorboys is 10.99 plus s+h which ends up being $17. Ah the price of riding clean lol.

 

I use Mexitirecleaner! It's only available at my local car wash and applied by mexicans!
keeps the tires shiney, though!
