buying a winch... which one?

Hey guys I'm buying a winch 8000lb line pull... But im have trouble choosing which one i want. Either the smittybilt RCX8 compition winch or Warn M8000. Smitty is 500 and warn is 539... any one have either? anyone know anything about them... both reviews seem pretty good. which should i get?

i bought the warn m8000. i vote warn, but i dont know anything about the smittybilt. almost everybody told me to buy the warn because they had faster line speeds, and the lifetime warranty.

warn

I have had 2 Warn winches since 1991. Both have had some maintenance repairs restoration and are still in use. Excellent factory tech support and parts availability. 8000# is good for Ranger.

I have a smittybilt 10k. Only problem I've had is a faulty controller.

If I was going to spend the money on a competition one I would go ahead and just spend the extra for a warn.

If you want just the regular xrc8 I would do that and get the lifetime warranty from 4wp.

I would just get a regular smittybilt, I used and abused the **** out of mine and it never gave up.. and I know mine didn't retail for $500.

if you know my history, you know everything on my truck was pushed. The only problem I ever had was melting my battery terminals.

Honestly, how often are you gonna use it? And when you do, how often will you need the little extra line speed? Winching is supposed to be a slow, careful process. Your truck isn't a comp buggy.

needless to say, I was plowin the lake bed.

I eventually needed another 20,000lbs of winch to finally pull me out but the smitty got me most of the way.

ive used my xrc8 alot also. great winch no complains... though if ur gona use it on heavy mud id recomend to drill in a breather and put it as far up as u can and seal the hell out of it. still getting mud out of it..

the winch out of factory came without 1 of the carbon springs... (3 out of 4 only) so it should work a hell lot better after.
but u can get a normal one 300$ or ur getting the one that comes with the synthetic rope?

If i was going with Smitty i was gonna get the synthetic rope line. The winch bumper im getting is a decent weight so i wanna keep the weight as low as possible so with that line it should only be 65lb winch... the warn is an 80lb winch. I hope i dont have to use it that much... but its there if i need it.

I have the XRC8. Ive had it for 3 years now with no problems. Only thing I do not like, is the VERY slow line speeds. It is a strong winch but re-spool takes forever.

It takes a while, but it also makes it easier to make it look nice on the respool

Just save some money, get the XRX8 for ~$300, and get some nice syn. rope. Better yet drop a few more bucks and get the XRC10.

there is no such thing as overkill... Half the time you're gonna be winching someone else and ****** blocks aren't always an option
