Painting stock 15 inch wheels
Painting stock 15 inch wheels
I think I'm going to paint the 7 spoke painted stock wheels I have on my truck. I searched and I found two examples and I think I have a pretty good grasp of how to do it, but I was wondering if a gunmetal gray (Duplicolor wheel coating Graphite) would look good on my sonic blue truck. The paint looks alot like DSG. I might even consider the Duplicolor Black.

Example out in the sun.
Here they are on strakill's truck, example of stock

I would also be painting the centercaps. How would I go about removing and replacing wheel weights, or is this even necessary?

My Truck, for reference. I have the chrome covers btw.
Thanks

I took the wheel weights off and had them rebalanced after I painted them. I think black would look much better with the blue. I don't know how the duplicolor holds up but the Rustoleum Rust Proof has held up extremely well on mine.
thanks, I think I'll photoshop them later today when i'm back from school. Any pics of your painted wheels? For some reason I still think the graphite would look really good, but it's kind of a hit or miss.
I think I may go with the graphite. For the wheel weights, could I take them off somehow and then mark them on the masking and possibly put them back on after the paint job? How would I do that? If I do this, I'll write a how to of the process. Also, which Duplicolor primer would you recommend? The self etching or the sandable primer?

upload pics to photo bucket and then copy and paste the img code...
Alright, thanks. I won't use self etching. I like how the photoshop turned out. I got a four day weekend coming up soon so i'll probably do it then. If I don't like the graphite i'll just do the black. shouldn't be hard.
all i did to paint my rims is wipe them off with a rape and water, let them dry a day in the sun and then used a flat balck as a primer and after that dried i used the gloss back to make the rims the color i wanted
Mine looked so bad. It looked like they haven't been washed in years and they were really dirty and like a little oiley. But they turned out nice. I can take a close up pic right now if u would like to c them
