well i broke my factory beer can skid on a log (bent the **** out of it) so i decited to make a new one. i started out with a cardboard template and once i got it how i wanted it i went out and bought a 10 inch by 4 ft (only needed 3 but wanted to be safe) by 1/4 inch. that piece was about $30. then i marked the lines where i needed the bends at and took an angle grinder and cut the inside of the bend out almost all the way through the metal. then i bent the metal in and the gaps folded in on them selves and it came out *****en. here it is just need to paint and drill the mount holes.

what I did on mine was just use the stock holes already in the frame but drilled them out bigger than those mini holes in there.

watch your fuel filter

 

it almost looks like you could have welded it a little hotter, but it should be fine..

anddd the skid, good idea, maybe roll the front up a little, or make a little 'ramp' like the stock one to keep it from getting hung up as easily.

I'm still rockin' the stock one, every time i take it off I have to run it over a few times to flatten it out enough to get the holes to line up, but it works every time

 

ya im plannin on putting 45 degree "ramps" on either end and for pix of the bronco go here.

also on the welds we just have a little century wire feed and i had the heat all the way up but w/e....it should hold

Best fix I ever came up with for the stock tcase skid was to replace it with a short wheelbase Jeep.....HA!HA!, sorry had to!

ya i cut through like 3/4 of the way on the inside of the bends and widened out the gaps and then bended them until the gaps closed and if it wasnt enough i regrinded it and bent it some more. worked out pretty good. and ya thats what the skids are for so they take the damage instead of somthing important but in that case if it wasnt there i probably would have just backed over it and maby snagged a little on the torsion bars but i dont no. just hope the new one is strong enough. ...lol

 

well i finished my ramp.....not sure if im going to do the front cause the t-bar skids are right there and this doesn't hang as low as them but i don't know. any way..pix

 

im thinking about weather or not i should ramp the other side....any one ever been caught on that side..(towards front of truck) its pretty protected by the tbars but i dont no. also i just picked up some "rust tough" paint and primer for it....should have it completely done by tomorrow unless i decide to ramp the other side.

I don't think you need to ramp the other side, then your making kind of a bowl for dirt and such to get trapped in there

what I did was make a lip for extra strength.



but then later cut holes out to stop the dirt and grass build up. Works great now

 

you dont ever get hung up on the holes?

 

but if he does ramp the front it doesn't have the flat lip to invite the dirt in..
