those look pretty nice, anyone know of any that would work for a DD. I have 31's and it doesn't fit under the truck anymore. So I need something in the bed that doesn't take up to much room. I'd like to get the one on the tail gate but wouldn't that really hurt Gas milage. I get around 20 MPG city and last trip to NH (before the transfer case went) I got 30MPG. So anything thats like bedside mounting?

tire carriers rat cage or Backsider
hey guys!
You were talking about if someone makes a tire carrier that can lay flat or stand up in the truck bed... well I have an aswer for you. It's called the BackSider Tire Carrier and the web site to get it is at www.leonardmotorsports.net click on "store" and sctroll down untill you see it. They can hold up to a 42" tire and they are cheaper than a Rat Cage. The retails is like $149.
The Rat Cage is also cheaper than the TireGate by half.
see ya

Here is something I was going to do but i found a used one for 25 bucks...
El cheapo but effective...
Materials:
Rotor to match the bolt pattern
Lug nut locks, or other way of lockin tire to carrier
Square tubing (length depends on height)
flat plate
Take you square tubing and cut it to the angle that you'd want the tire mounted at... Then weld that to the underside of the rotor... Figure out the height you want the carrier to stand to, cut the excess off... Weld the tube to the plate, drill holes for mounting... Bolt down... Put tire on and mount it up... You could get the rotor from a j-yard DIRT cheap too....

well in all fairness, the tiregate is more practical, as it replaces the tailgate, instead of taking up the majority of the useful bed, and you don't need to remove it to haul something, (does it make sense to leave your spare tire behind when you need to haul something?)
they are expensive, but anything worthwhile isn't cheap! and they look really badass on a lifted truck!
and they have hi-lift mounts and backup lights and all such things anyways...

This is true... If the truck is multi-purpose then something along those lines is better... My truck has a 3.o and running 37's and is geared... it will never haul anything other than trail gear in the bed so takin up bed space wasn't a worry i can still stuff a cooler between the tire and gate and can stuff things under the toolbox and along side... just nothing big... The tire gate has always been cool just $$$ i'd imagine!
