All I know is that what it said in my directions. To spool it out until you get to the red and tighten it back up by pulling the truck or something.
I have the xr10 sitting in my living room, been there for months. I have too much time to read directions rather then actually installing it. lol

You have to pretension it, otherwise when you go to make a hard pull, the rope/cable will want to crush/cut the line below it. Usually 500lbs is the recomended weight, but pulling a rolling truck work real good.

looks really nice tucked in up there! I don't understand that pretension stuff either. It makes sense so it's all coiled up nice and tight.
I found this on the website at the bottom. Basically when you're done using it and back home put the truck in neutral, pull most of the cable out, then winch the truck in so it's ncie and tight.

Well, you have the winch, the accessory kit and basic skills to use it in the back country! First, go out to the alley or back lot and pull the cable out almost all the way, connect it to the phone pole and pull your rig to it. Wind the cable up under light load, keeping it nice and tight, laying the cable right next to it self, no gaps, no overlaps. Wind it up tight to just before the hook goes in the roller fair lead. Then hook it to the tow hook or some place on the bumper and just snug it up, not super tight, just snug. Do Not leave the clutch lever open!

I hooked up to my buddys truck and it was an incline to it spooled up very well. That cable the Smittybilt comes with is pretty crappy from what I've read. I don't know how many pulls we should be able to get out of the cable, but I'm at 5 right now. Some parts of the cable are starting to show signs of wear. It's always re-spooled properly, neatly and tightly.
