Upgrade time?

I got a letter from the dealer that sold me my truck. They want to buy my truck back 'above market value' and offer me a deal on a new or preowned truck. They also claim that the upgrade will be 'at little to no cost to me'. How can they do this? They do have 2 2011's with a 5.0 that I like and a 2012 with the ecoboost. There is also a really low mileage 2010. That would serve me very well. Thoughts? Comments? Things I should be on the lookout for? If I can trade up for not much $ my 06 will be gone

Throw the letter in the trash. When you are ready to buy a vehicle go to a dealership prepared. Fall for the gimmick that letter is and you'll leave the dealership with sore hindquarters.

You really think its a gimmick? I'm not disagreeing with you, and I do understand that it would cost me some more money, the question is how much more. With the length of time left on my current loan, I could probably get into a new truck with almost no extension of the loan term as long as the interest rate is good. If I don't like the numbers on the table, I'll walk. When I bought the current truck I planned to keep it until it dies. So if it doesn't work out, I have no problem keeping my current truck.

Yes, I really think it's a gimmick. I've seen those types of letters before and they are nothing more than bait to get you into the dealership. You will not get a better deal because of it.

Fair enough. I'm going to take my truck in on Saturday and see what they have to say. I won't be acting ecstatic, I have a really good feeling the numbers won't work. If they work, great. If not, I have no problem running the current truck into the ground.

If you want to upgrade just go to the dealer, shoot them a low deal, let them counter, then say no I'm not paying that and leave. They will call back.

I have 4 years left on my 06. Which is why I am even remotely considering the idea

That just may be what happens. They do have a couple of 2011's that I like in stock

well, yeah... of course they do... they buy your truck for, say, 10k, then mark it up to 13,900 and then charge a new buyer huge interest and end up getting like 20k for the truck...

I have no doubt that they want more money. I talked to them on the phone and they told me they were after 06 ish trucks due to a high demand and a low supply We will see how bad they really want a clean low mileage truck

I initially thought it was a recall notice. But after I opened it realized that recall letters come from ford not the dealer

So I went to the dealer today. I came home with my 06 and I am keeping it. I drove a really nice clean 2010 with 37k km on it. I gotta say, the new 6spd trans BLOWS. It honestly didn't feel any different from my 06 with the 4.6. The 1-2 shift was awful. I have never felt a truck fall on it's face going into second gear like that before. Plus the 2010 had 100 pounds [U]less[U]payload than my truck. My dealer was great though. They flat out told me, they couldn't give me enough for my 06 to make the upgrade worth my while.

The shift should be a software fix....Did you ask them why they sent you that letter then? I'd be pissed.

I figured that a programmer could fix the problem. I was a little annoyed, but they did apparently send out a bunch of them. I didn't drive a 2011, which is what I went there for in the first place. But the 2010 I drove was quite a bit cheaper, I just wasn't at all impressed with the truck Made leaving with my 06 that much easier
