Glad everyone is okay anyway.
come on man, the "i told you so" speech is never nice to hear when you just totalled your car... also note that the cause of the accident isn't always the same as the person at fault... for instance, black ice... black ice is never at fault, but it often causes accidents

either way, this sucks... glad to hear you are ok! i think the reason you have so much damage and he has so little, is when you slam on the brakes, your front end dips, and the person infront of you's back end goes up, so you sink under his rear bumper, which is how a golf took out the front bumper, grill, hood and headlights on my mustang, while only pushing one side of the bumper forward about an inch and a small scratch

it sucks about rear ending and being automaticaly at fault. even around here there have been alot of dumb drivers. i lost count of how many people i've motioned to that they are going down the wrong way on a one way ( they really notice when a 40ft bus is barreling down at them) i also had two separate people make a left hand turn with me while i'm in the left lane with signal and thay are in the right lane with a "broken" one.
good luck with the insurance. i don't think it will get written off though.

Almost had the same situation today, guy in a white F150 towing a big red trailer put on brakes suddenly infront of me. His trailer covered all his lights, I was about a car length back and had to lock em up, which would have intern put a Chevy astro into the tailgate of my truck and left me in a mess

OUCH! Sucks to see that man, the truck looks like a goner. Get ready to either part out your mods or get all your receipts for all your mods and submit them to the insurance. They will only pay a fraction of what the mods were in most cases, but if ya gotte let them all go at least youll get something for it.

Theres well over $2K in parts alone damaged on the front of your truck. The hood, bumper assembly, headlight panel, grille and lights are all pricey. Looking how tweaked your hooks are the frame horns are probably jacked too. It sucks man but just be prepared for it to total out.

FWIW, i got 12K when all was said and done for my Ranger less than a year ago. It was also an 04 so you might have enough for a good down payment on another truck.

I got rearended by a chevy one time and it did virtually no damage to my Toyota Tercel, but destroyed his front end.
Truck rear ends are solid, and don't have a lot that can be damaged, where as the front ends are made to crumple for safety. Shouldn't really mean that guys Chevy is tougher than the ranger. If you look his frame is pretty much unscathed, its just the soft stuff that got crushed.

UPDATE: Well State farm did not total it, it has been in the body shop since 12-8-09, im suppose to get it back sometime this week...haven't heard anything today yet, they keep me updated daily. As most of you know I was hoping for it to be totaled see as I paid 5500 for the truck and only owed 4638 on it at the time of the wreck. state farm would have given me 17,500 for it if they were to total it. But in LA there would have had to been 13,000 in damage (75%) but there was only $9500.

Why sell it? Unless you are just kidding. Im sure the truck will be fine after its all back together. My truck was gone from 12-8-09 (freaky... same day) and i got it back about a week and a half ago. I was just glad to have my truck back. In fact, it feels better than it did before. The shop even aligned the bumper, hood and lights better than the factory did.

UPDATE: Ok so the body shop called me today letting me know they to the truck to the dealer to see about some airbag codes. While at the dealer they determined the SRS module was fried (Idk what they mean by that) and all of a sudden their are engine problems..something to do with the camshaft they say(they weren't to specific) Anyway statefarm says they will send out an adjuster ASAP, who knows my truck may be totaled after all. But since the engine wasn't hit, I hope they don't pull the "oh this isn't accident related card" if so I'll have to have a mechanic buddy of mine draw up an invoice that predates the accident by a week or two saying I had a tune up done and it ran fine then.

Thats more of a testament to how they hit rather than the vehicle itself. Slam the Chevy into the back of the Ranger and the same thing will happen. Vehicles these days are meant to fold up and break into pieces from the front when they get hit. Its all in the design. The OP is probably better off physically due to that.

I told them not to. I'm a control freak sometimes and I want to do it myself again.

Every time the air bags get deployed you HAVE to replace the module for them because it fries when it deploys the airbags. If its fried it my actually set your total cost above the totalled cost because those things are expensive! And it sounds like the camshaft positioning sensor. if that blew and they ran it for a minute or two I would expect the engine to be toast now too... because it controls the oil pump.

Yeah but they sure do make the difference in alot of cases... If they go off your usually talking 1000+ dollars added right there.

Did I just read that right?

Insurance fraud isn't anything to dick around with.

If the engine isn't hit, they can't necessarily say the impact didn't do collateral damage (such as a cam sensor). However, if they deem it not a result of the accident, and you file and submit a claim with a bogus predated invoice for work not done to get the insurance claim, you've just committed insurance fraud.
