Can my ranger do this?

I used to go through giant puddles like this all the time in my jeep and never had problems, even with water up to almost the headlights, pouring in the vehicle. Can I go through deep water like this in my ranger? Or no? What do I need to be careful of? the airbox and what else?

As long as you keep your airbox out of the water your ok. As soon as water gets in their you have problems.

I doubt you're under warranty anymore, but if you were I'd say dont do it. Ford tried to void my warranty because they could tell I had submerged my rear end a couple times.

Check all your breather lines. Make sure they're tight and up high.

some guys have made snorkles, others just plow through it. its a risk you take with any vehicle and wheeling/mudding

the air box located near the hood? if you can get water up to that without stalling, or any damage, then why does ford say "don't drive in water deeper than the center of the wheels?

Probably cause the water will seep past the axle seals.

Ding ding ding. After you submerge the axle its always a good thing to go ahead and change the gear oil. Better safe than sorry in my book.

I hope you like gear oil lol. You'll need to change it a lot more often if you like to play in the water a lot.

Not a good idea...you could be driving down the river and fall into a deep spot, which would flood out your truck, but what the hey it's your truck, just don't expect your warranty or insurance to cover the damages.

i used to do it all the time and never had a problem. but just like any vehicle, you dont want to suck water in. thats not just on a ranger. you just have to know the limits

Do it properly. Only go fast enough to create a small wake in the water. Don't hit it at 90 MPH.

exactly! I learned the hard way. Luckily i'm on the same engine and it's running kinda strong still. lol.

Like everyone said, extend those beather lines, watch what you are doing. etc. Same goes for ANY vehicle really...not just a Ranger.

SOMEBODY said it.

It doesn't matter WHAT you're driving. If you're going through stuff like that, you NEED to extend the lines, watch what you're doing, etc. (sorry for saying that again, just making sure you got it).

I would suggest not going through water like that, but that's just me.

I learned the hard way too. When it was raining like crazy in CA I decided to drive through a massive puddle at like 50mph. I went through then all of a sudden my truck was running like crap. I pulled the filter out and it was soaked. This was with the stock box and snorkel in place too.

I crushed my brand new K&N cone. The engine literally sucked the filter and crushed it. lol. Live and learn I suppose. Drove it home with an open intake tube.

Remember Kiddies....water does not compress!!

I learned my lesson a couple of weeks ago.

Don't snorkels from a Land Rover fit on our trucks with little modification? I seem to recall a guy that was from Alaska that was on TRS that has one. I like the look of them on a bigger truck. And it is a good insurance policy.

When I was really into doing stuff to my Ranger I was going to buy a K&N Apollo and run the hose in the fender to a snorkel. Then I could just pop it off and run a cone filter when in the city.

My 99 has the air box sealed off and has a snorkle running to the cowl at the base of the windshield, along with extended breather tubes for the axles,t-case and trans. I have drove mine through creeks that were so deep that even just crawling thru them I had water breaking over the edge of the hood and water up to my cup holders on the center hump inside. I have had to remove my turn signal lens more than a few times to drain them!

I've hit water that deep many times. Down here in the rainy season the only place to wheel is a swamp. Many holes that I will not attempt are 6+ feet deep. Most of the trails are 3' deep consistently.
Just need either a snorkel or good throttle control and know your limits.
A snorkel from an 80s land cruiser is in my future.

I've gone through water up to my headlights and past the bottoms of my doors a couple of times and its not something I enjoy doing or risking my truck with.

08sport4x4 went through the same large hole I did and he sucked water in and got hydrolocked.

Just remember...trucks aren't boats. They don't belong in the water.
