Buying a ranger, a few questions...

hey all, new here! i'm looking at getting a ranger in the 04-08 range. i found an 06 sonic blue FX4 level 2 the other day that im gonna go take a look at, only downside is it has 88k miles the price is good, but im just kinda weary about the mileage since i dont know too much about these trucks. how many miles do these trucks go before you start having to replace things? any serious issues i should be aware of or looking for with a truck like this? any input is appreciated

Thats a great mileage. 4.0's will last for a long time. i've got around 168K on my odo. at 88k you should be replacing basic things. Tranny fluid, spark plugs, Air and Fuel filter. brakes if they need it. just go thru the manual and do the regular scheduled maintenance

The 4.0 SOHC isn't the same motor as the 4.0 OHV as the previous posters commented on. Its still a solid motor though, don't have to worry about the timing chains in it either.

The Level IIs are sought after by a lot, sounds like you found a gem!

Probably should have mention that little fact. I did know it was different. but either way. 4.0's run like the colored fellow should have in Deliverance.

Do a lube, oil & filter and maintain a regimented service cycle,
If automatic trans, do a fluid and filter change, refill with synthetic and add 1 bottle of lubeguard (black bottle?, red bottle?, read the application on the label) , if manual trans, drain (make sure you pull correct plug to drain!!!!!!!) and fill with fluid recommended in your owners manual or ask at dealer parts counter (probably ATF or MTL) , don't forget to service rear axle, also a synthetic refill, and enjoy a well built, comftable and reliable vehicle for many, many years and miles.
If you are having service done vs. DIY, and manual transmission, GO TO DEALER for service as wrong fluid = disaster in transmission.

Many many miles to come... My truck has 100,000 miles more than that lvl II and she still fires right up every time and purs like a kitten. And my truck has been nothing short of abused on more than one occaison since I bought it.

Yup, I would totally go for it. Check it out thoroughly though. My truck only had 55k on it when I bought it which i thought was low and it would last but now I'm going through parts like crazy trying to catch up on maintenance the previous owner should have done. FX4 LII are sweet looking trucks and at 88k it sounds great to me. I would go and check it out really well and if she's mint then go ahead and buy her. Let's see some pictures too, no?!

Most of your problems were caused by a certain young owner with a certain oil-based CAI lol
