Sources for rust free beds?
I'm up here in the fabulous Chicago, IL area, where we put salt on our salt in the winter. My bed is rusted out in the bed area, the sides are actually looking pretty good, the tailgate holding in there. I've got an insurance check coming for a tree branch hitting the side of the bed and cab (just a buff will take care of cab), so I was thinking rather than getting the bed buffed, probably painted in some areas, why not just try and find a rust free bed?
Problem is, my truck is an '03 Level II, red. Doesn't seem to be a lot of beds out there, and I'm looking for a rust free that basically has a mint/darn close to mint outside, very minor scratches/dents on the inside (this time I'll Line-X the inside).
Was red just some not popular color? The couple of 'rust free bed' places I've found so far on Google, they have like one Ranger bed...I'm pretty internet savvy but where are you that have done this finding rust free stock?
Thanks for any help here!
Chuck

The only way to find one is drive to Arizona or New Mexico and pick it up or have it shipped freight. Here is the best junk yard search link.

Yeah I've been looking at that site, hard finding stuff in red first off, then stuff in prime shape second off.
Based on the prices on car-part.com, I'd easily pay that for a red bed for my truck. Brand new in that kind of shape would to me, again based on the prices on car-part.com, probably be closer to $1500-$1600. If someone got it for $1200 they did quite good! (it's not red and you don't still have it do you? Haha)

I figure if I can get a box in a really good shape, it'll outlast the rest of the truck haha. About to hit 215k mi, just did front tensioner, PCV valve and PCV hose (including elbows, mine was cracked), and all thermostat stuff. If everything chain related in the engine holds together, might actually get 300-350k out if it, not too bad for being in Chicago area for most of its life.
