us with the 06+ and don;t have the center console. here's how you get an extra 2 cupholders... swap out that floor console for a -05 ranger, they have 2 cupholders and the lil bin there... then you'll have 4 good cupholders

I love my ranger, and all my friends who drive rangers love their ranger. Loud? i made mine louder, as if i can hear it over the stereo. Rides like a truck? crank the t-bars and put in some off-road shocks and make it ride more like a truck! Fit and finish? its american, if u want fit and finish buy european. Fuel economy? well they have me there but who cares. Go buy a smartcar if your that concerned about it.

No tilt wheel & truck-like experience...

lol. those were the two that I laughed at. I've got a tilt wheel and my ranger sure drives like a truck. I don't know WHY???? I should be able to handle a freeway ramp at 75 like my bike.

Something's wrong with my truck... I wish CR would have done this BEFORE I bought it. Plus, it's got a 0-60 acceleration like a truck too...

lmao. what a joke.

CR is a joke, i used to be heavily into hondas and their review on the Integra Type R was insane ... loud cabin stiff suspension, no sunroof ... ITS A ****ING SPORTS CAR NOT A CADDILAC!!!

Someone find a rating for any 90 - 02 accord ... probably pretty high even though the auto trannies in those blew up easy, specifically the 94-97's

oh and my truck doesnt have a tilt wheel you dont hear me complaining, only thing i used to ***** about is lack of cruise but if it was really a big deal i would have put it in by now

I have tilt, cruise, everything besides power windows or locks. They have to be bloody stupid to complain about the Ranger not being not equipped with tilt steering just because the cheaply optioned one they took does not have it. Go take an FX4 with tilt, leather, cruise and lots of nice power options out for a test drive, learn how to write a proper review on a vehicle and shut the f*ck up when you dont know what your talking about. DUMMIES!!! haha I fix and drive benz's bmw's and porches every day and as much as i like them, I love the simplicity of my truck more.

I just bought a new 2009 Ford Ranger Sport last week (doing my part to stimulate the economy), and this is actually my 4th Ranger during my lifetime of vehicle ownerships. I would like to add, with the fantastic offers Ford and dealers are offering right now.... I was able to purchase this truck for nearly $6000 below the sticker price. Anyway.... I was disappointed by the CR review as well. I was even more dismayed at them criticizing the Sport package for the options it offers and why they're offered. It seems the CR testers want the Ranger to be more of luxury SUV, rather than the truck it is.

Bad Fuel Economy ---I like my fuel economy, lasts me all week in my 4.0
Uncomfortable Seats ---What my bucket seats are SOOO comfy
Loud Cabin---mines Quite!!
Rubber Floor instead of Carpet---get one with carpet you idiots (i have carpet)
No Tilt Wheel (this is BS because I have a Tilt Wheel) get the tilt wheel option you idiots
Fit and Finish---its a compact truck! its supposed to be small, not meant for large families, and as for finish, BEST looking truck on the market (must be doing something right-its had same platform since 93'!)
Compact interior space---i got plenty of room!
Truck-like driving experience---ITS A FREAKIN TRUCK
The list goes on...

I brought my Ranger due to a few things.

-Owned one in the past, and been pleased, and glad to won it again.
-I'd say it's a proven truck.. This long in the market, it mean bugs are taken cared of.
-A good truck for the money.

I am at about 28mpg for my XL 5speed 2.3l truck, I did not want the extra bells and stuff... Only thing I wanted was A/C FM radio, and cruise.

I do appliance sales, and I don't agree with CR results on some of the appliiances.. I know one washer is made by one company and they are the same thing as another brand, and X brand got better rating the A brand.

+1000, btw did they say what motor they used to get the supposed horrible mileage? Or would it have to be the 4.0 since 4x4 isn't available on the 2.3? Hell, my old Lima got 24.86 mpg last tank!

Bad Fuel Economy - Like I said, mine's pretty darn good.
Uncomfortable Seats - No complaints from my standard cloth bench
Loud Cabin - The only thing I really hear in the cabin are the engine and transmission. And that's exactly how I like it
Rubber Floor instead of Carpet - Carpets came on mine and I didn't even have a loaded model at all
No Tilt Wheel - "(this is BS because I have a Tilt Wheel) get the tilt wheel option you idiots" - well said
Fit and Finish - Mine's darn good, but what do I know
Compact interior space - If you want more interior room, you're going to pay for it in terms of weight. Aka go get a midsize truck if it's important.
Truck-like driving experience - Isn't that the point?

Price is everything on the Ranger, IMHO. This was my feeling even back in '03 when I bought my truck. If money were no object then the flashier, better equipped, softer riding competitors might have a shot. But in actual value the Ranger has 'em by the *****.

Also remember that few pay sticker for their Ranger. I dunno about the rest of you, but after all the incentives and discounts I walked away paying roughly 30% under MSRP, before trade for my '03 LII. I wonder if CR's reports take this into account?

Although in truth, if money were no object I'd be driving a full-size like an F150. But it is an object, so paying close to 50% less for a Ranger winz everyday.

I haven't read the article, but it I were to rate my ranger I would give it a 85/100 or a solid B. Good but not outstanding.

NOW I have a 2003 XLT with:

extended cab
carpet floor
tilt steering wheel
power locks, windows, and mirrors
cruise control
automatic transmission

So I would say mine was well equipped.

However I tend to agree that fit and finish aren't the greatest. Take for example the crooked front bumper my truck came with (fixed via the bumper mod).

I have been VERY happy with my truck. Besides my slave cylinder going out I have not had any major issues. No more then any other vehicle.

Rangers are great trucks and based on how many are on the road I think they speak for themselves.

I got my hand on this report, OMG! What did they test? I disagree with a good number of things they talked about.

-Ride is harsh..
I don't think it is... It's a truck, not a Caddy!

-Ranger feels clumsy, and requires a lot of steering...
I think my parents old Buick Riviera felt clumsy.. Ranger is solid.

-Plastic are mostly hard and cheap looking.. Screws heads are exposed and poor panel flex when you pull the door shut.

I didn't know plastic was suppose to be soft? I think it looks just fine, and easy to keep clean.

What screw heads? There maybe a couple under my radio, but it's not sticking out like a sore thumb....

Did they have someone hold the door open while the driver was trying to close it???

-Radio lacks tuning ****.

I think most radio now days don't have tuning ****... It's got a tuning up and down button.. What's wrong with that?

-The climate system lack versatility and no rear defroster.

Humm.. Vent. A/C, Max A/C, Off, Dash/floor, Defrost/floor, Defrost... What are we missing?? I think it that what most cars/truck has on it....

Rear defrost?? I've never seen that for a truck!

They also compair this truck to the "truck wanna be". (SUV with back cut open, or ones are bigger than Ranger.)

They really need to make a Midsized Tacoma sized truck. Love my Ranger and it's been reliable for my father and I for 11 years however it's just too small. No room for 2 dogs and 2 people. Unfortunately if I were ever to upgrade it wouldn't be a Ranger. Too outdated and small for a primary vehicle.

I was unsure about mine at first, but now I love it! It's easy to keep clean. And will be nice when winter comes.

As of right now im saying the T6 is going to be the new Ranger. If thats true I hope it gets a small turbo diesel, because a new player is entering the American truck market soon.

Ford T6 Mule

^ $22k, Crew cab, and a 30mpg diesel. Soon to be on the American market.

I traded in a 1994 4wd XLT Ranger on a 2008 FX4 model and I was surprised in that my 1994 model was a much better equipped truck than the FX4 model. It had better bucket seats, full carpeting, front and rear sway bars, full set of guages, etc.

I bet if consumer reports tested a Mazda B series, it would get better reviews, since it's not an "American" name plate.
