Can I Tow with My 04 Ranger Edge?
Hello everyone,
I need to haul a Nissan pickup from North Carolina to Georgia, and I was wondering if I could tow it with my Ranger Edge. It is a regular cab 3.0 V6 2x4. I am not sure weather to tow it using a car dolly or a full car trailer, could anyone please hook me up with this info. Truck I am towing is a compact/midsized truck. I think it maybe a rear wheel drive. Also, would I need a towing hitch or the towing ball for the rear bumper? I am sure I would need to know the trailers tongue size to fit my bumper with the correct sized ball, but any info/ suggestions would help me tremendously.

I dont think that I would attempt it, but if you do, yes you will need a class III hitch and I would recamend that you use a dolly style trailer. With your 3.NO GO its gonna be awfully slow... But in theory any thing can tow anything, its a matter of stopping your load and I have my doubts if your pulling a similar sized P/U. Oh and on top of all of that, I dont know of a single place that will rent a car dolly to a ranger. Hope that helps.

Ignore the newbies.
3.0 is fine for towing. Slow means ****, we aint drivin racetrucks. And anyways, its not that slow. It's just people *****ing and moaning. I pulled a chevy 2500 up a snowy hill in winter in AK, and my 3.0 didn't whine nearly as loudly as the girls in here do.
Many people have towed before. Whoopedy do, if we all had 4.0s life would be great, but we dont.
Get a towing hitch(the ones that directly connect). Make sure that your vehicle weighs more than the Nissan. You will be fine towing it since the roads down there are much better and autos are good for towing.

thank you MR. Know it all. Aaron, why do you just think it will be perfectly fine? did he mention how far he was going? Or how much the Nissan weighed? Nope...
We need more details. you need a htich for sure, the bumper will not work. you will need a receiver and a ball, but a retal dolly place will offer you that.
btw Aaron ive heard you talk about doing all this stuff but you never post any pictures or have proof that you do it.

Keep the auto out of overdrive that's for sure. You might be fine with just using the bumper and a ball. In the next couple weeks i'm towing a Festiva on a tow dolly with my 2.3L/5 speed so it couldn't be to much worse. Take your time is the key and watch out for the other idiots (that's your only problem).. if I can tow a 13k 5th wheel with a f150 anythings possible.

Eric-the key to you being able to tow a 13k 5th wheel is that you have trailer brakes, this makes a huge difference. When you are towing using a car dolly you have to rely on the vehicle that you are towing with to stop both vehicle and dolly.
Jason-you might be alright, but do not use the bumper, go buy a class III hitch. If you decide do it just take your time remember you are not in any kind of race.

Just my 2 cents but we pull a 5th wheel camper with a base weight of 4,272lbs using out 2002 Ranger 4.0. We are in GA by the way, and he dosen't say anything abot the types of roads or the distance he will be pulling it on. If our Ranger will pull this camper, without a problem, I don't see why his wouldn't pull a truck once or twice, so long as he doesn't get in a hurry with it.
