Diesel oil in an FE

Hey all I have a '76 highboy with the 360, does anyone here run an FE with diesel oil?? If so, what weight? If not, what do you run? Thanks.

I've been researching this myself for my '68 Cougar 390. I'm going with Valvoline Racing oil as its got more zinc than diesel oils do. Rotella was my choice until the formula was changed a few years ago.

Actually i guess technically you guys have an FE and I have an FT since its a truck. Either way, flat tappet. I believe i read somewhere that higher zinc is good but there's a level that can be too high? does anyone know spec on this?

High mileage engines

AMSOIL does not designate a "high mileage oil". ZROD is designed for antique and high performance vehicles with flat tappet engines. It has the most zinc of all their oils, although others do have zinc. What you need is top quality motor oils. If your engine is using oil, a higher viscosity may be needed. Diesel oils are also OK for some gasoline engines . As you can tell, I am a strong believer in quality lubes and use AMSOIL in all my vehicles and equipment. Log on to the AMSOIL site and you can get all the information you need.

@donsranger1- Awesome I will def check out AMSOIL.

@Scrambler82- Yeah a lot of high mileage oils do have a higher zinc content in them...but I'm not sure if the retention in the valve train is quite as high as the diesels? Not sure..
