New Horns for the Stock Ranger

New Horns for the Stock Ranger
Okay this is something that has been bothering me for a while. I have a 2002 Ranger with the stock horn that just drives me nuts.
Why? Because it sounds more wimpy than my girlfriend's little Dodge Neon car.
Lately I have been having to use my horn because people turning into my lane in a double-turn lane... just a string of bad luck.
My question is where should I check out places to buy a new horn with some power behind it to actually scare people rather than me be embarrassed to use it.
Not a crazy sounding horn, but maybe an 18-wheeler type. :)

If yours is like mine on my '01, you have (2) horns, a high and a low. Mine has the same issue, I think, from getting wet. Until I order replacement horns and get them installed, I dissconnected the lower (low) horn wires. For whatever reason, it was causing issues with the upper (high) horn. Now, at least my horn is louder and can be heard.

Any auto parts store will have louder OEM-style replacement horns in stock.
There are also cute air horns with little compressors and two or three trumpets out there. It's probably best to wire those so that the stock horn power wire triggers a relay, controlling a fused power wire going to the compressor for the air horn.

if you wanted to run air horns..get a small 2 gallon tank 30 bucks or so on ebay..1/4" valve any air site online 30-50 bucks, single semi horn 20-50 bucks small compressor 100 at the most and you be good and have a plenty loud horn..

First off, I have to make a comment about another Chuck in the Denver CO area with an 02 FX4 on here... ironic?
Chuck, my 02 has the same problem, except when I bought it, it also came with an aftermarket airhorn from Checker (i think). When it's working (damn thing needs to be re-wired and I don't have the know how to do it) it's pretty loud. As far as why you need it, I swear, people in Denver don't know how to drive.
You could always get a locomotive horn, my buddy Larry has one on his 94 Ranger... 135 dB!
