I just put a new motor in my Ranger and Im thinking about using Lucas synthetic oil in it. Does anyone know if its good motor oil?

 

Oil is Oil.
Synthetic is Synthetic.
They all come out of the same barrel at Dupont. its all whatever you prefer.

One filter when I chg the oil, then one filter at 3K(+) and oil/filter chgd at 6K(+).

 

I saw lucas full syntehic motor oil at 4wheel parts for 6.99 a qt, napa has new oil filter called the Platinum made by wix it just like the royal purple oil filter its a full syntehic media wired back.

 

Lucas is crap imo. I used it in one of my older cars, never had valve tick, as soon as I put the lucas in it, had severe valve tick, immediately changed the oil back out but the damage was done, engine blew 2500 later.

Their is nothing better than just plan Dino oil. I used to train mechanics and I would run a small engine with the new oil additives in it. I would then take a rag and put down pressure on the crankshaft. Hold it for about one minute and the engine would lock up and score the crankshaft. Just hipe and not worth the money. Just run a good quality regular oil and your engine will last a very long time.

 

Yes you are correct good oil, regular changes w/filters.

BUT… we are running out of the stuff.

Not that I am a tree hugger but if we can make something that will work as well if not better than nature lets use it and I can heat my house with the saved oil.

 

That is true but if you break down a Qt of oil as it is now, there is less than 1 teaspoon of oil in each Qt. The rest is addatives. Synthic oil is just to thin for me to use. you must have a very tight eng or it will leak. I have seen it with 28 years working in the shop. The cost is just to high. If we could make somethig as good and worked as well, I would use it. My truck has 165,000 miles on it with no leaks or andthing done to the eng. Reg oil change every 5,000 miles
