Heater noise

My heater when turned on is making a noise like a leaf is stuck inside. It goes away and comes back. IT sounds like something is hitting the fan blades. How can i fix this problem? Or clean it out?

Twigs and pine needles can fall through the perforated grid on top of the cowl. It is the intake for the HVAC. Avoid parking under trees if possible.
