Hello from Japan.
Hey guys... just wanted to drop in an say hello from Japan. I took orders to serve over here for 3 years here at Yokosuka Naval Base, about an hour or 2 south of Tokyo.
I haven't been on in a while, and that is because I was moving... finally settled in and just checked to see if I could log on at work, and looky here.... I can.
Unfortunately, the truck could not come with me. Well, it could have, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of inspections and fees to get it here. Anyways... it's in good hands. I drove it back from California to Indiana, towing my 89 Honda Accord the whole way with no major issues (it just sucked going uphill). My brother has it parked in his garage and he drives it around town and keeps it running in tip top shape.
Japan is a nice place to be. The weather blows goats a$$ right now , but the people are really polite for the most part, and there is almost no crime to worry about. It's a LOT of walking to get to most places, and we have bicycles too, but you can take trains to just about anywhere you want to go, and there are LOTS of things to see and do here.
I did buy a car, because it sucks walking 2-3 km's carrying $150 worth of groceries, and with this weather lately . I got a 2000 BMW 318ti Sport with about 60,000 km's (~37k miles) on it for $2750. It's a 2 door hatchback that I think is kind of rare in the US. It's a 1.9L 4-banger, but it's small, and easy to navigate down the narrow streets here in Japan. It's no Ford Ranger... and trust me, I looked for one.
Anyways... I just wanted to say hi, and thank you all for paying your taxes, because without you, I wouldn't be able to be here in Japan sitting on my butt, typing in a thread on a forum at work.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will try to update this thread with some pics of our travels and other random stuff I find in Japan. Me and the wife bought a new camera before we left the US... it's a Nikon D5100, so at least some of the pictures should be good quality as we learn how to use it. I miss my truck, but I'll get some pictures up and ***** the BMW out a little bit, and get some pics I took of the truck before I left.
