Reason for selling my truck

Thank Leo, for reminding us that we should not post mindless things in the Classified section =D. Good call.

Anyways, I'm selling my truck because of the outrageous gas prices here in Santa Barbara. It's at 2.69 for regular. Starting in the summer, i would have to commute to school, and the back and forth driving multiple times a day will result is ~10, 20 miles a day. With the low mileage efficiency of our engines, it's a LOT of gas

I'm going to be driving my old 93 Geo Prizm. I know, i know, it's a Geo. But it's ok. It was the car i drove Junior and Senior year of high school. There's a lot wrong with the car, but i don't mind paying 200-500 bucks fixing it, so it can run great. (car's worth like 600, hahahahah)

This way, when I am going to get a new car again, or a "new" car again, i can get a car i REALLY REALLY want. (i have to be honest, i didn't really want the ranger when i first bought it. I started liking it more and more when i got it, haha)..

So yea, the's a 93 Geo Prizm for me, after i sell the Truck..

However, i would like to ask for some advices on selling an automobile, for it's the first one i've ever sold/going to sell...

1) After you pay off the truck, how long does it usually take for me to get my owner's paper?

2) Who handles how to transfer the ownership info at the DMV?

3) What should I look out for, what general advices can anyone give me for a 1st time car seller?

Any suggestion, comments are welcome. Thanks

I'm going to be selling my truck. I don't need a pickup anymore, so I will be getting a 93-94 Explorer, 5 spd 4dr 4x4. So far all the 5 spd's I've found are beat to crap. I looked at a 93 XL yesterday... it was in great shape, low miles, one owner since new, special ordered from factory.... but the guy was a bare-bones type of guy. It has manual hubs and shifter, and a/c. No tilt, no cruise, no nothing. The a/c doesn't even work.

My b/f and I figure it is easier and cheaper to convert a loaded Explorer to manual hubs, since there is a kit, than to convert a manual hubbed Explorer from base base BASE model, to power seats, tilt steering, cruise control... I'd like pdl, pw, power mirrors if I can get it. But the Explorer will be basically the same drivetrain as my Ranger, just more interior space. And 93-94 has 4w ABS.

Good on you Larson for recognizing that it's time for a change and making it. Pickups aren't for everyone and certianly not for every application. I for one live close to work and have a very short commute, so I can justify the low efficiency regardless of the gas prices. It's a drag that you've got to sell, but probably for the better in your case.

Best of luck w/ the sale. I've always traded vehicles to dealers, so I'm of no help w/ the private sale, sorry..

well if the bank has the title it will likely take a few days for you to get it after they receive the payout amount
you might contact them and find out where they actually hold it and see if you can pick it up
if California is like NJ then the title is the transfer document for the vehicle
you sign the back and give mileage and price details
the new owner takes it to the DMV and they pay the tax on the purchase price and are given a new title in their name
registration and inspection are the responsibility of the new owner
go to one of the vehicle value sites (www.KBB.com) for examples and to find out what your truck is worth
use the private party sale and list for the highest value + a little more
don't list it so high you get no offers and be prepared to haggle a bit (most people like that as long as it remains friendly)

good luck with what ever you choose and I hope you can sell the truck at a fair price that you are happy with

Truckzilla is only worth $16,545!

..Which isn't actually that bad considering what I owe on it. However I don't dare run the same estimate for trade in value..
