I've got one. I've nover gotten a speeding ticket, I don't think it has much to do with the detector though. I don't have a thousand dollar one, I paid 150 for mine. Most cops in my area use VASCAR i.e. timing your a$$ from line to line. Only Pa State Troopers can have radar and unless you're on the turnpike or in some backwoods town you don't see them much.

I would say dont waste your money. In MN if you get busted for speeding and we(cops that is) see a fuzz buster its an automatic ticket. Ill give you this advice: The Lazer radar that is often used can detect a vehicles velocity at extremely long distances, for sure up to a mile depending on the road and surrounding environment. This means that i could lock your speed in way before your fuzz buster even gets the slightest indication that im pinging your vehicle. There is a super simple solution to this....just follow the speedlimit. Remember that the speed limit isnt just set to keep vehicles from going hog wild on the streets, the speed limit is set based on the crown of the road, turns, area(is neighborhoods, city, rural, ect), the make-up of the roads surface(class 5 or asphault/concrete) and on the capabilities of the average driver with a well maintained vehicle in the most forgiving of road conditions.

i have a 40$ one from walmart. i dont speed excesivly becasue i have it. i think it is worth every penny. even if im going just 5 over and it starts to beep it lets me know that there is a cop around, ill slow down.

i think now that i have one i hate driving other vehicals that dont have one.

Yeah but 90% of fuzz busters detect K, Ka, X, and Lazer.....all of which are worthless except the Ka and Lazer bands....which are the slowest bands to detect anything

in my area 90% of the cops are not even clocking when they drive around.

90% of the time my detector is going off before i ever see them.

this is enough for me. a 90% chance of you know they are close is better than not knowing at all. atleast you know your busted before they even kick on thier lights.

lol nows my time to shine....:

ok so first things first, DONT RELY ON IT... cops are sneaky and if they want to catch you speeding they will. They do "pop" radar, which is just a button on the remote that "pauses" the radar so you cant pick it up, then when you crest a hill, or come around a bend, they turn it back on and your hit and they have your speed in about 1-2 seconds. So once again its improtant not to rely on it and to learn about key spots for the police to sit...

second is DONT REPLY ON IT....

thridly, youve got to pay attention because they can be set off for a number of things, like weather stations, automatic doors, aniimated highway signs, etc... so learn spots where you will get what are called "falses" so that you dont slam your brakes on every time, then realized its a false, and you begin to doubt it everytime it goes off...

as far as what to get, right now the 2 best ones availbe are the escort x-50 (red or blue, both the same, you just pay like 60 more for blue display) and the valintine one...

my freind has the x-50 and he and i both love it, long *** range and very few falses... the longest pickup on straight road, hilly though, was almost 2.5 miles with K band....

the valintine one is the most expensive but not nessicarly the best. It has arrows on it to tell you with cell is picking up the radar which is nice to know where the cop is, but it has had MANY cases of falses and in accurate arrows...

and lastly, laser protection is worthless, they get your speed in less then a second at almost 1000ft so basicly it jsut lets you know to try and get away lol... only thing to protect you from laser is a laser jammer (yes laser jammers do work, radar jammers dont) and "veil" brand paint which helps to scatter the feild and makes it take longer to read your speed...

my best advice other then DONT RELY ON IT is that buying one that is in the 100-140 range is probably what you want.... they have decent range so you have time to slow down but they tend to have a large amount of falses, and they advertise 13 bands, when police only use K and Ka.....

Had the Escort 8500, was great, not saying it is fool proof, but anything helps.

K40 is what you really need.

I like mine, but usually only go 5 over and there are cases in which i need to go 10 over, but that's rarely. Just dont expect it to 'save' you when goin 85-100mph, you might as well pull over and surrender..heh

Why bother with one then? Most cops that I associate with wont bother stopping a car for say...oh... 60 in a 55 or 75/70 because its been challenged in court so many times that cops would rather not waste their time with the little guys and rather go after the guy doin 80+/70. However...35/30...yeah its been done....25/20....yup, especially if its a school zone and children are present.

I just got an x50 last week. But I have yet to see a cop using radar or laser...

But I only go 5-10 over, and in CA that is nothing. Cops usually wont bother you unless you're going 15+ over.

CB is more useful than the radar detector, I usually only utilize the CB on long road trips and such. Gotta turn down the music every ten miles and get a bear report =]

I think it's nice to know like Zach says...I'll admit I've done a 60 in a 45 pretty fun and on nearby road 80 in a 55 didnt get caught luckily...it was prolly last summer when I did that now I dont feelink drivin crazy I just do 55-60

I've had different radar detectors now for 4 years, and they have saved my butt many times. Its true, cops can just point and shoot with the radar, but around here they try to be sneaky and hide behind bushes... being that they can't see too well behind them, they leave the radar on constantly. I have picked that up and slowed down to the speed limit, just to see guys pass me and get pulled over. Even if you don't speed much, it is a good investment.

I have always used Escort radar detectors.

For the last couple of years, I've had the Escort: Passport 8500 x50 (blue), and it's pretty much the best one I've been around. I still have my old 7500 and 2 previous to that one.

I have friends w/ the Valentine One, which is the only real competition to it, and it def. has more false alarms. However, it does have the directional arrows, to let you know front or back, and also tells you how many guns you're being hit w/.

I personally think the Escort's are the best, and so do 9/10 reviews I've read.

I don't have mine because I speed. It's a good reminder for me, when I roll into a speed trap town, sometimes, to just remember to slow it down, when I get that initial beep. I rarely speed, but if I am speeding and get a beep, I feel the relief that comes w/ not getting pulled over.

I have a Radar detector in both of my vehicles, and neither my wife or I have gotten any speeding tickets since their installation. I've got Cobra's, and there have been many times it will go off long before I can even find the cop, and even MORE times it has saved me an inevitable ticket!

Quite honestly, all it takes is one time of it saving your butt and it pays for itself!
