We got our first big snow last night here in Iowa. Today I dug my ranger out and was using 4WD and after using 4x4 Low and turning the switch to 4x4 High or 2WD my truck doesn't always switch back right away. I did get it back into 2WD just wondering is this normal? All in all though my Ranger handles snow great. Definitely a huge difference driving in winter from my 1993 Honda Civic.

See all that snow in the 2nd picture on the left side of my truck? Well I ended up with my front end and my right side of my truck in all of it trying to get out. So I put it in 4x4 Low thinking I might be able to drive out of it but there was way to much of it around my tires and this snow was that really clumpy ice stuff since it was 10 degrees. Took about 30 minutes to dig all the snow out from around the tires and then I was able to get out.

 

You have to be in neutral and have foot on the brake.

 

Thanks man I was just looking at the owner's manual and realized that's what I must have done wrong. That would explain why when I was at a stop sign it went back into 4x4 High.

 

You don't need to use low range for getting out of a snowbank. It's just not necessary. High range is all that is needed.
