70k on a 02...to much??

If you dont already no, im looking for a 4x4 ranger.

My uncle works with a guy who is selling a 2002 xlt 4.0 4x4 auto with 70k on it. He was going to trade it in so he got a price from a dealership of $11,000.
My uncle told him that i was looking for the same thing so he is waiting to see if i will buy it for $11,000 instead of the dealer.

I no that the miles are kinda high for a 02 but they are all highway miles because he lives very far from where he works. Do you think that 70k is to much to buy on a 02?

I Bluebooked the truck and 11,000 is a great deal. If i can buy the truck at trade in value thats really good. Private party value is $12,500.

I havent went to look at it yet because im not sure on the miles.
Would I have to worry about any problems that happen when you put a lot of miles on a newer truck fast??

What do you think?

Take this for what you want....

I bought my '01 offroad 4.0, 4x4, 4.10ls completly loaded with 39k miles on it for $10,000.

Your price sounds high, but it might be your area

I'd go look at the truck, you can tell a lot by its appearance. If it looks good it was probably well maintained. See if you like it first, then have it checked by a mechanic. The mileage is high, but if its been properly serviced, it should be OK.

Highway miles are alot better then city driving......City (stop and go) will kill your engine really fast.......Price seems fine to me, but ask him if he'll take $10,000.

To much $ or to many miles???

Of what i hear from my uncle, he keeps it very well maintained.
I dont think 11,000 is to much at all for an 02. For somereason, around here i find that rangers are way over priced. The only thing that concerns me is the miles.

I wouldnt be able to drop the price any lower then 11,000 because thats what the dealer will give him, so why would he take less?

yeah man... as long as they're all highway miles i wouldnt even worry about it. just verify with him that he maintained the truck well and id say go for it.

It really depends on how it's been maintained. I'd go see if there are any "red flags" in the online reports you can get on cars. It costs a couple of bucks to do it, but it's probably worth it.

Edit: "CarFax" reports. Name wouldn't come to me while typing the above, lol.

Get it checked out.. balljoints etc..
IF they are bad ask him to get them fixed or take 10500 and you will fix them. :)

I think its a pretty good deal. a 2002 (all the options)with 36000 would be about 15000 in my area...
Then again you can get BRAND NEW 2005's for 16900 here...

So in the end my advice is if the truck checks out after a full inspection..
thats a decent deal. If it doesnt... pass.
Its also alot easier to haggle on price at the dealer WITHOUT a trade-in.

That pisses me off, when I took my 04 lvl 2 to the dealer they wanted to give me 11k for it with 25,000 miles on it. I laughed.

Go ahead & check it out. See if its good & clean. You can tell a lot about a vehicles care just by looking it over. Be sure to drive it & engage the 4wd. I am assuming it is an extended cab 2 dr model. That would put trade in value at a little over $10,000. A four door would be about $10,500 loaded up. $11,000 is a fair price assuming it is in very good condition. If you aren't going to put a ton of miles on it yourself, it is probably a good buy for a few years. 4wd's hold their value pretty good. You will have a good bit of maintenance coming up at the 100,000 mi mark. Nothing devalues a vehicle more than miles, but trucks don't seem to hurt as bad if they are clean & in good condition. If you are going to finance it you might see what one more year will buy you & see if thats worth waiting to find one with less miles on it. Let us know how it turns out!

i bought my truck, which is an 01 with 34,000 miles on it, and i paid 10500 for it, and thats a year older.. so id say its a little high but if you dont plan on putting a lot of miles on it then i wouldn't worry about the miles.

I bought my 99 with 52,000 about 1 1/2 years. Right now it has 118,XXX, I put 66,000 miles in a year and a half and the truck is still running awsome.

I don't think t's a bad price. Especially if it's mostly all highway miles.

I looked at one around my area last weekend. It was a 2002 ext cab 2 door 4x4, and they were asking $12,6XX and it had 60,000 on it.

It mostly dependson the area that you live in also.
