Why cover your license plate?

I am curious why some people cover up their license plates in pistures that are posted? I understand it can be for security, but we drive around all the time and it's in plain view of anybody who cares to look at it. Maybe yours is stolen and you're scared lol. Post up what you think......I wanna know

It removes any doubt one who's vehicle you find on the street.

Say I post up pics of a awesome sound system in my truck. Then have random pics of my plates. Someone could use that info to find my truck and rob me blind.

Granted its a long shot. However I have already had stuff stolen out of my first car and truck.

My user name is my ham radio callsign, and my license plate is also. I can be found -- but nobody ever visits me...(boo hoo...)

You need a ham radio license. It's called APRS and it's very well documented and theres very inexpensive equipment to do it. Get your license and I'll hook you up!

That's retarded. Remaining anonymous doesn't protect you from random acts of crime.

I dont waste my time I think it would be easier to find my truck looking for it than trying to find it by the licence plate.

It wouldn't be a random act of crime if they're intentionally targeting your vehicle.

I've already had a car stolen from me and I've come to believe that me posting on a local car forum was enough for the c*cksucker that stole my car to collect info and find where I work to come steal my car. I'd rather be safe than to think back on all the things I could have done to prevent the theft. I think you would understand more if it actually happened to you, until then everyone seems to have the "It can't/won't happen to me attitude."

On the flipside, what's the problem with seeing a blank license plate? Does the picture lose all intrinsic value?

Yes, but there's no monthly charge for what we do in ham radio. Once you have the equipment, you can access the network for free.

Yes, the uniformly black license plate becomes a "aesthetic black hole" and all the artistic value is sucked in past the Schwartzchild radius and is lost forever...

...fortunately there IS NO artistic value in our truck photographs, so it's okay.

well there is so much about internet scams i guess people feel safer if their plate number is covered makes em feel a bit safer but these days its too easy to get private info so its really not going to save anyone that much

It's just added piece of mind, that's all.

These days, people can get into anything. If someone wants to find you, they will, but why give anyone a leg up?

I don't mind seeing people do that, it doesn't take away from the pics at all.
