stuck in 4x4

Hello all,
I have a problem with my 07 Ranger and am looking for help. For the past few months when I put the truck in 4x4 high it go in slowly and comes out even slower to the point that i think it is half in and half out when it is parked in the driveway. If it is left for a couple of days the 4x4 dash light goes off and it is not in 4x4. Two weeks ago i needed 4x4 high again and it has not came out yet. I have tried backing it up, putting it in 4x4 and back out but no luck. I am going to change out the shift motor but need to some how get it out of 4x4.
any suggestions or help would be great, have a good one

You could try tapping on the shift motor with a hammer to see if it will disengage. Sometimes you get lucky if they are going out.

I had that happen to my '03.
I stopped and rocked it back and forth, hitting the brakes a harder than normal to jar the system.
She came out of 4x but I haven't had it in since so can't tell you if it is good or not.

You might want to get under there and see if there are any grease points or joints and rails you can see that are dry, add some grease or spray silicon.

the shift motor resides on a internal collar that slides in and out -- engaging or dis-engaging the front driveshaft .

how long since you have drained and flushed the transfer case fluid , there is sediment that will settle to the bottom of the transfer case near the front driveshaft collar eventually jamming it in either position

i had the dealership drain / flush the transfer case fluid and i had them add some duralube to the fluid to lubricate the shift collar

also the transmission must be in neutral and your foot must be on the main brake pedal for the shift motor to receive power
