Main reason for me was because a ranger was what my dad had stuck in his head for me to get. I had just sold my 93 camry, and made a little bit of money on it. We went to the chevrolet lot, looked around in the boneyard part of it...and found my 1992 xlt. At the time, I thought it was not a good buy. Standard cab, 4cylinder, bad transmission, four different sized tires on it...and he had to talk them down to $1,300.00.

Now, 6 years later....I've got over 200,000 miles on it...with minimal problems and affordable maintenance (except the ICM which was $150). Although now, I'm really ready to move to an extended cab. 6 years in a standard cab, and I'm definitely not a small guy. I think I've earned it. lol.

I got my Ranger from my grandfather when I was 16 years old. I just fell in love with it. I like all of the Ranger and Bronco II but I love the 1st gen Ranger and Bronco II.

My 87 Dodge Shadow was at the end of it's life and I stumbled upon the Ranger at the local dealership. I liked the way the newer Rangers looked.....as opposed to the earlier boxy models. The height of the Edge and the BFG's that were on it.....as well as some other factory options.....just made the decision. I think from the first day I seen it to when I drove it home, was 4 days....LOL

I haven't slapped a lot of money into the Ranger for mechanical repairs.....just mods...LOL

I have been in ranger's or B2's since i was born. Ranging from me seeing pics of my dads 83 I believe,85,88,91,93,97,02. He has had a few with most leases but thet were all reliable. I myself am only 5'5 and the truck fit me perfect, plus you cant forget the 4.0.

I have always liked the Ranger since i was 16 yrs old, but at the time i couldnt afford a truck with my highschool job then once i graduated from highschool i bought a 94 Ranger from my uncles dealership, the truck was smashed in the front corner but i still liked it alot, then a few years later i sold that truck back to my uncle for the price i bought it from him, then went to a Ford dealership and bought a 99 Ranger Sport, very slick truck. Owned that truck for around 4 yrs then started to get some tranny problems with only 54,000 miles on it, so me and my dad decided to look for a new one, went to the same Ford dealership as where we bought the 99 Ranger from, i was really only looking for a 03 or 04 at the time or which one had the best deal, but we then ended up getting a 06 Ranger on a lease for only 20 dollars more than what i was paying for my 99 Ranger. So i was extremely happen for that. So all in all i really liked the Rangers since i was a young one

For me, I always wanted a pickup truck. One day earlier in the year, while at the dealership getting service on my Impala, I saw my Ranger sitting on the lot. It sure looked nice. I liked the size of it (not too big, not too small). I went home and researched it on the Internet and saw that the dealership had an Internet price special on the truck, so I went back and bought it. If/when it's time to purchase a new truck, I'm not sure it would be another Ranger. It's not that I've had problems, but I feel the current market has better mid-size trucks to choose from.

i had a 1992 ranger 4cly 2wd manual, beat the **** out of it, it was blue, loved that truck, paid for everything myself bought it when i was 14. i drove that thing so hard and it never let me down.

when i was a senior in high school i wanted something else, more power and 4wd was definatly on my list.

after looking at trucks and more and more prices i had decided on a used ranger 2001 or so, wanted an edge, test drove one had them work the prices and it was pretty high.

after further investigation, mind you i was only 17 no one would let me drive a brand new ranger, finally my dad went with me and we test drove a 2003 sonic blue ford ranger, loaded exactly like mine... loved that thing, only problem was i couldnt sign any paper work until i was 18... so i waited and waited 2 months, went back and my truck was gone, still wasnt 18 yet but it was close. went to another dealer and found a guy that really wanted to deal, he didnt have the truck and promised me he would have one.

3 days later he calls and says he has one, i go there and told him i didnt want it, only thing it was missing was limited slip, man he was pissed but 3 days later he found my baby up by chicago. drove it down and it was perfect. he held it for me for 1 week and the second i turned 18 on my birthday i signed the papers.

anyway, i still beat the **** out of mine and i love it, has never let me down. i plan to buy another when i get this one paid for.

When I got my 95 I was hooked. It barely gave me any trouble at all (until I T-boned a guy) and then it was still good. I sold that one, went through a few bad vehicle decisions and this year I refied the house and bought a good low miles used one. I love it, and hope that this will be my kids someday (only if I grow to like the newer styled ones, sorry not a big fan of the newest ones though) ((plus planning on giving it to the kid someday helps me justify modding it LOL))

I'd been driving my Honda Del Sol for about a year, and while I loved the car, I needed something with some more room. I found a 4x4 Ranger with the 3.0 at Carmax while I was just wandering around one day, and I really liked it. Did some research online, and found Carmax had a black 4x4 with the 4.0 and a stick shift. Had them drive it down, and bam. Bought my first Ranger.

After I rolled her, I knew I wanted another Ranger because it's just about perfect for where I'm at right now in my life. It can carry all the stuff I need it to carry to and from college for me. It's got great power, it can tow my jetski no problem. It's a good-lookin' truck and does pretty well on the gas (relatively). It's easy to park, and for the price of a basic full-size, I can get all kinds of creature comforts and still have nearly the same towing/power capability. Plus, Rangers are pretty well affordable

i was in need of a newer, reliable vehicle, and wanted a truck. i didnt want/couldnt afford a full size, so it was down to ranger/taco/s10. i didnt like the looks of the s10 unless is was the full out zr2, or whatever their offroad package is, and those were a bit out of my price range too. the tacos were also kinda pricy for what i wanted, so it was down to the ranger, and after driving a loaded B4000 for a summer at work, my mind was made up. i looked for quite a while with no luck, mostly because of my budget, before a friend of a friend was selling his 97 and would give me a good deal. it was the 2.3 2wd, but it had the manual tranny and was a ranger, so i took it. almost 2 years later i couldnt be happier. my next truck will most like be a ranger or other ford truck. im hooked for life.

Holy t-bars waiting to be kissed batman!

As for me, I had an 81 celica/supra. Mom was tired of having to pay fellow team mates from the cross country team and baseball to drive me home. So a roll of duct tape and $250 later I had my 81 Toyota japanese piece of ****. After a new rebuilt I-6, new computer, and a few other things we just couldn't get the car to work properly. I looked at my mom and said please get me something new. She didn't believe me until the damned thing stalled in the middle of an intersection (it was an automatic) while she was with me. She said she'd see what she could do. She didn't want me working, figured that with my great school greats, plus me participating in sports was enough to keep me out of trouble and equivalent to working just minus the income. She asked me how I liked driving her explorer, I told her I'd like to have it. LOL It's a 92 4x4 with twin shifters and manual hubs. In April of 2000 I came home to a truck (ranger) in the driveway and my mom's explorer missing. I asked her where the explorer was and she said, oh it broke down and this is a friend's truck. What to go take me to get the explorer. Sure! She hands me the keys and says let's go. We argued because I wasn't going to drive someone's vehicle, especially since I didn't know who owned it, didn't know her "friend". I drove anyway and she directed me to a used dealer lot. We pull up, she askes how I liked the truck. I said it's almost like your explorer, just no 4x4. She askes if I want it and 25 minutes later I owned a 93 xlt ranger 4.0 5-speed excab.

Long story longer, I recently posted about above truck in the shapshots forum. In summer of 2004 I was doing a reptile and amphibian survey at Carlsbad Caverns NP. On my way back to the caverns I opted to take the long way (aka fun way from Las Cruces through Alamogordo to Cloudcroft to Artesia and then to Carlsbad). While en route I noticed this neat ranger at a used dealership. I turned around and looked at it. It was a silver 2003 FX4 Level II with twin shifters. I wanted it! Seriously, IWANTED IT! Well, while on my way back to my trip, about 40-50 miles outside of a little town called Hope, NM 5th gear crapped out on me. Earlier that year my clutch took a dump and my O2 sensors were going. I called my mom up and told her about the tranny crapping out. She called the nearest Ford dealer, who called me and told me I would be fine as long as I used 4th, stayed below 3K and drove no higher than 55. Talk about a long freaking drive! I told her about the truck I saw, but she wasn't having anything of that conversation. Dealer wanted 19K for it. I had about 2.5K to my name and mom couldn't afford to help out even if I used all my money as a down payment.

I kept that truck in my head, and in Feb 05, after my accident, I started searching. I knew want I wanted - that FX4 Level II package. I didn't want a 150, just too big (new style) and I wanted something fairly new that I could get a warranty on. A friend tried to talk me into a taco TuRD, and yea I looked into em; 22K for a 2001 with 53K miles, no warranty, and manual trans. F That! So I kept searching and searching. I kept finding FX4 Offroads and in automatic, but no manuals. I was search 03s and 04s as I knew I couldn't afford a brand new 05. One day I came across an ad on-line for my white beauty. Called the dealership it was at (Carl Gregory Ford in Ft. Payne, AL) and started asking. Found out it was 4x4 on-the-fly, but I was going insane trying to find a manual 4x4 an no luck! I called my mom up, told her about the truck. At this time I had already had the vehicle claim from my accident (approx $5600) and I was waiting on injury claim, I had to finish physical therapy. I called the dealership back, told them my situation and asked what could they swing price wise? She was $18,751. Guy on the end asked what I was looking to spend? Oh, 15 or so. He said, let me ask my boss. I'll call you back in 5 minutes. In the mean time I call me mom. 2 minutes later he calls back (on phone with mom) and I talk call (mom on hold). He tells me 16K even, hold on...Mom he said 16K even, you want it? YEAH! OK....Mom, call me when you're done - hangs up. I tell dealer it sold and ask how much it would take to hold it until I could get the vehicle claim check in hand and the injury check. $500 hold it for 2 weeks, but in your situation it'll hold it for a month. I said ok, let me make a phone call. I call my mom, she says write a check and I'll (mom) make a call to state farm. We put 7K down and got a 9K loan. The rest is, well history. Now I just have to hope Ford redesigns the ranger so I can make this thing my offroad beast and get another as a DD.

i was always more of a gen one s-series fan, and always will be, my family had had many of them over the years. and i have always been a truck (or fast car) kinda person. I was looking for a cheap s-series blazer or truck when i came across my ranger. for $600 might as well. it has been a great truck and i would do it again.....if i didnt find the perfect s-series first.
