anybody run a plow on there stock ranger im thinking about putting one on my 2005 edge 4.0 what would be a good set up for it to thats not to heavy for the front end

 

I don't think there is a kit that is not too heavy.

I know the local Western dealer is making a big deal because that make a safe plow for a 1/2 ton lol

 

imo i wouldn't put a plow on something that new or small plows put a lot of stress on the front end and transmission. if it were me i would find an older full size to put a plow on

Yes you can plow with a ranger, I would go with a sno way plow if you can find one, Light and has a power down feature for backdragging. Ranger makes a great personal plow truck.

 

all i know is my 2001 Ranger manual says: DO NOT INSTALL A SNOW PLOW ON THIS VEHICLE.

 

i wouldn't do it on a torsion bar ranger but anything older i would do it which is why i want one lol....maybe next year.

 

it also says something about modifying the suspension too, but their are a ton of lifted vehicles on this site. They can not void your warranty for using aftermarket equipment designed for your truck. Trust me I looked into this heavily. Hell their is a dealer here in MN that routinely sells rangers off their lot with western suburbanite plows brand new.

Hell my Half ton dodge with a Dana 44 says not to install a plow on this vehicle too, doesn't mean it can't handle one.

yeah a plow would void the warranty thats why it says that. if you are going to use it every once in a while it will it will be fine but use it all the time i wouldnt put it on a ranger get something bigger

 

yup i agree.. you put bigger tires on your truck/quad and it will void the warranty. i wouldnt put a plow on anything smaller than a half ton..

 

IMO it all depends what you want to plow. I wouldn't recommend it for commercial use, but if you want to do your driveway and a small lot it would be great for that. I can't remember which manufacturer, but I have seen plastic plows that work real well to. The main cage of the plow is steel with a steel blade, and the curved portion of the plow is plastic to cut down on the weight. BTW I have been plowing professionally for the past 5 years.

 

No it wouldn't, and I got that inj writing from ford. I wanted to put a plow on a my 2004 (ended up putting it on a beat up explorer I got for next to nothing) and as long as the equipment is made for the truck they can not void your warranty. Hell Did you know ford does not want you Plowing with a Diesel F-350 cause their is too much weight on the front end, how many of those do you see getting their warranty voided. My Plow was heavy as hell as it was steel and it was on a 1995 Explorer sport without being removed for 30K miles (it was a U of M vehicle that they plowed sidewalks with) and the only ill effects that it suffored was a loose gear shift from getting jammed into drive and reverse over and over with no care. My Friend Nick still Daily drives that Explorer, I have seen it with all four wheels off the ground, it now has over 100K miles and still the original front end, transmission, and complete drivetrain. My Buddy Jesse has a 1993 Ranger STX with 250K miles with a Sno-Way plow that has been on it for the whole time he has owned it (at least ten years), Original engine, one tranny, one set of ball joints, and really no noticable wear more than someone who actually uses their truck.

 

If you run a light weight plow it won't be a huge issue for light use. Just be careful not to run into anything big, driveways and stuff should be fine at a reasonable speed.

 

yea i just plan on using it for my driveway and all my families driveways like maybe 5 or 6 driveways and one small access rode about 900 feet long. so i wouldnt be plowing too much its just that i have a bad back and even manuevering the snow blower makes it hurt after a few hours

 

i had a plow on mine and had zero problems with the truck. I did a couple driveways and several parking lots. It was a sno-way 22 series. The plow weighed just under 300# and the frame about 110. I sold it last winter because school is getting in the way of the business. I miss it.

I lost reverse in my auto at 108k. I would not want to plow with a ranger.
