Went to ****-mart today and picked up 5 quarts of Mobil-1 synthetic and a Motorcraft oil filter. Got the part number from their little computer by the filters.

Went to LordofWars house, and changed my oil. Started the truck, and it proceeded to spray two quarts of oil all over his garage floor. I felt like a real POS, considering he keeps his **** real nice.

I thought I messed up, but upon further review I did in fact get the correct filter. I verified both at the mart and at Autozone. Both have the same part numbers in their system.

WTF? Anyone had an issue.

BTW, I replaced it with a Mobil 1 filter. Tripple the price, but I will never do anything else.

Im going back to the mart now to see what the can do for me. An oil change that should have cost me 35 bucks now cost me 65 due to the new cost of the Mobil filter and the two extra quarts I had to buy to replace that that was lost.

 

Did the O-ring from the original filter pull off and stick to the block? So there was 2 with the motorcraft one? Thats happened to me and it leaked a ton.

I was thinking maybe someone was checking out multiple filters at walmart and maybe put the wrong filter back into the wrong box....

Thats the only logical explanation I can think of.

 

Well that's not really motorcraft's fault is it? No need to boycott their filters over something like this....

 

Not to be a dick but sound like operator error. Last time I changed my oil (and every time for that matter) the filter had the part number on it.

 

if you over tighten the filter, it could leak.

All i run is motorcraft... and between this ranger, my last f150, my current f350 and my last ranger.. never had any issues.

 

yeah id say that was a fluke. ive never had an issue with the motorcraft filters i run on either truck.

 

Sounds like you just got a bad filter. Motorcraft is all I have ever run on my Fords the last 15 years.

 

Yeah either a random botched filter (could happen to any brand) or operator error

All I run is motorcraft filters. Wal-mart has the best price. 2.99 opposed to $4+ at AZ or AAP

 

Definitely wasn't operator error....its not rocket science to screw in an oil filter.

Went to walmart and got my money back. It was the wrong filter in the correct box...

 

Well that sucks. Did they reimburse you for the oil too?

That's great you got your money back. So now you don't have to spend any extra on the oil replacement.

65$ oil change is what I do. Mobil 1 oil and filter. Pay that $65 once and change it at 10k when you pay $90-100 and change it 3 times

 

Wow that sucks! I'm going to have to start checking the filter in the box next time.

I don't open the box and verify the filter is the one its supposed to be in the store, no. I doubt many on here do either.

 

No, but I do verify it is the right filter when I take the old one off....never trust the parts guys!

Haha I never trust the part guys after what happened to me at work. Had a pair of wheels ordered for a 250 the alcoa looking ones. We got steel wheels, then Chrome steelies, then non dually then the correct wheels.

 

Last time this happened to me it was the rubber oring from previous filter, I was sooo pissed.

 

Since he f*cked up my garage floor I'm going to claim operator error, lol.

Since it was new oil it did clean up decent but you can still tell it happened.

Last time you ever let anyone in your shop

 

I went to Autozone once for a Motor Craft filter and they checked the filter in the box for the matching #'s on the box. I never though of swapping one for another in all the years of buying filters. I do check now when I get them off the shelf.
