Icon5 96 Ranger Power Window Stuck (Both)

96 Ranger 4.0L 232,000 miles. Love this truck just sick of getting wet!!! Is there any way to manually power the windows up or down? Can i apply 12V to the Window motor and power it, and reverse polarity to run motor the other way?? Just want to make sure it is the motors that have gone bad. But both motors at the same time. That is what doesn't make sence. Checked out the continuity of the switches (seem fine), Checked for cracked wires that run through doors (all good). Just want to apply direct power and see what happens! I can put a test light on the motor connector and it will light, try to power the window up or down with switch and the test light dims a little (no relay click). Do the same thing with the motor unplugged and test light on the switch side of plug, test light turns on and off (relay clicks).
Thanks all.

When i installed my power windows there where no relays that i had to install in them. But always make sure you check your fuses because i see you didn't mention it in the above statement. If the fuses are not the case check your harness that runs across the radiator and make sure you trace all the wires that power you windows because you never know where a wire got corroded or even broken along the line.

Fuses

Thanks Shaklakan,

Checked all the fuses and nothing blown. Is it possible to apply direct power to the motor and see if it moves?? I will check the wiring that runs across the radiator cross member.

it is possible but always be careful when applying direct power to a motor because you can always blow it. But before you do that pull your connectors that run on each side of you truck and check the terminals for corrosion. I am currently having a problem with this in my power lock assembly in the fact that it is not unlocking my passenger door. I'm just to lazy to get out there and fix it.

Icon9 ?????

Connector? Which connector? Where the switch plugs in to the door wiring harness, or is there a connector the runs through the firewall that needs to be checked? Thanks

Well, Figured it out. There is a relay behind the Passanger side kick panel. It hangs upside down. Rangers have a problem with a leak in the lower corner of the windshield. That relay was rusted to a point where it would not work. Replaced it and everything works just fine. !!
